Appearance: Kairi is a very beautiful girl, all things considered. With dark red hair, reaching to her shoulders, and calm blue eyes set in a heart shaped face, she's not a face to forget-- even when she's not done up in stage show fashion. Often her hair has the remainder of curls in it from a previous show. However, it's naturally straight, but Kairi likes the effects those little waves give sometimes. Her skin is lightly tanned, a sort of olive tone from previous years playing in the country with her friends Sora and Riku.
Kairi doesn't impose an intimidating figure, not that that sort of figure fits her at all. She's petit and slender. Much to Riku and Sora's dismay, however, Kairi doesn't really let that fact intimidate her around others. Thus, both boys feel they have to go the extra mile to protect her, which while Kairi appreciates the sentiment, she wishes she could be more than just a figure standing on the sidelines cheering them on.
As far as clothing is concerned, Kairi often prefers dresses-- she's rather fond of the flashy flapper dresses that are commonly seen in the night clubs, but anything with sequins catches her eyes. However, she doesn't often wear dresses like that and usually sticks to simple dress and shirt combinations in warm colors.
Personality: Kairi is always constant. While Riku and Sora may have their periods of change and trouble, Kairi will always be the one that maintains the equilibrium between their group of three. She loves both of them dearly, and wants nothing more than for them to both be safe-- and to be with her always. Sometimes, this means Kairi has to take matters into her own hands, and she's more than willing to do that. She doesn't like standing by idly and hoping things go right.
Kairi, at heart, is a playful and sweet girl who enjoys being with her friends. The closer she is to any one of them, the more likely she is to tease them and joke with them. She can be somewhat lazy, easily shifting the harder work of their problems onto her friends. But, Kairi's better at planning and delegating than she is with lifting heavy objects. And when it really counts, Kairi is more than willing to do any amount of work she has to. However, building a raft is not one of those points where it counts.
Kairi can't stand being separated from any of her friends, however she tries to look on the bright side of any dark situation and trusts what her heart tells her, even when sense and reason say to do something else. This characteristic she considers a strength, even when most don't. She is resilient, and this allows her to be able to stay strong and keep a brave face-- because somehow she knows everything will eventually work out for the best.
Abilities/Strengths: Kairi's strength of heart is a definite strength to her character. Her willingness to try and try and try, no matter the odds while keeping a cheerful face is a sort of strength and a weakness. Because Kairi believes that no matter what, everything will turn out for the best.
She's also extremely friendly and welcoming of others. It may take a bit to forgive, but she's quicker about it than Sora and Riku are. This enables her to earn trust rather easily without even really trying.
She is willing to fight for what she believes is right-- however, more often than not, she ends up being the voice of reason.
Weaknesses: Kairi's strength of heart and hopeless optimism are also a sort of weakness. Because she will listen to her heart above logic and reason, and this could one day work not to her advantage as it always has.
Kairi's willingness to try and see the best in people could also one day work against her.
History: Born in a small country town, only hours away from Template City in 1914, Kairi had very little to worry about when she was younger, other than the occassional heartless attack, but those were few and far between. Instead, Kairi and her friends Sora and Riku spent most of their time playing together, living out imaginary adventures and Kairi acting as the medium between both of them for their competitions of manliness.
Things were simple and uncomplicated. However, things changed once the Great Depression ravaged the countryside. Entire families were destroyed and displaced looking for money. Riku, who had before been holding a job in their tiny town had to leave for the larger, more promising options in Template City. And once he left, things within the tiny community changed. In his wake, heartless came pouring in and attacks became far more frequent and harder to fend against.
It was during this time that Kairi, herself, became almost deathly sick, worrying her remaining friend, Sora. Sora tried his hardest to keep her active and happy-- but it was much harder to accomplish by himself without Riku. So, in lieu of that, Sora and Kairi went, by themselves to Template City, searching out Riku. It was while there that Sora and Kairi were attacked by heartless. Truthfully, Kairi doesn't remember any of it-- what she does remember are there being two boys.
Sora-- and another named Roxas, both needing care, but Sora more than Roxas. Kairi had to make an important decision in that abandoned alleyway. Leaving behind her coat with Roxas, she quickly rushed to help Sora and to take him to the nearest place that could offer aid. Sora never fully recovered-- nor could he ever recall what exactly had happened then, himself. However, Kairi questions whether she made the "right" decision every day.
She worries about Roxas constantly.
Kairi made it her task to find Riku, while Sora recovered, and together both of them would reach a decision about what could be done about their friend's deteriorating state. It was during that period of worry and fretting that Kairi, and later Riku, was approached by a man named DiZ, and a king mouse named Mickey. They asked her to help them, promising they would be able to provide more than a steady income for her and Riku, as well as the care that Sora needed.
Kairi readily agreed, finding she trusted Mickey, if not DiZ. And with Kairi's approval, Riku couldn't exactly disapprove. Thus, Kairi became a sort of mascot for the group that DiZ headed, occasionally taking on singing jobs on the side to earn her own set of money. Riku, on the other hand, became involved in missions that not even Kairi was allowed to know about, acting as a sort of body guard and handiman.
Sora steadily improved, much to Kairi and Riku's relief, with King Mickey staying with him. However, things changed for them one day when a raggged and starved Roxas appeared before them, though only Kairi recognized him. Beside Roxas, a smirking man with red hair appeared, his clothes stained with blood and an air of desperation about him that made Kairi think that perhaps, just perhaps, she could trust him. His name was Axel, and he was asking for money, having heard of charitible gifts from their organization.
Kairi, as a show of good faith, advised DiZ to lend them the money. And that was the last she saw of either Axel or Roxas before suddenly she found herself in a much different city.
Sample Journal Entry: Wow, I can't really believe the city's changed that much! What are these things?? They're like the nickelodeons, but they're in color! And there's sound! That's really neat...
But I don't think this is Template. Where did Riku run off to? He was just here a second ago.... Honestly! [folds her arms and appears to be thinking]
I haven't been this far into the city by myself before... And just ending up out here is really, really strange...
Excuse me! Sir! Sir? [Kairi looks stunned at being ignored] I've seen really busy and rushed people before, but at least they usually say something!
Ma'am! Ma'am?
Excuse me! [Kairi looks really puzzled now]
Something really strange is going on...
Oh no! And now it's raining!
Sample Roleplay:
Kairi tapped her hand against the table, the sound muted by the fine table cloth. Her sequined dress flashed brightly, and the feathered show cape she wore did little to detract from the brilliance of the gold dress. Her headdress lay in the center of the table, too heavy to wear at any time.
Her feet ached from dancing, and her mood was as dark and pensive as the look on her face. In one corner of the room, Donald and Goofy lay asleep on their makeshift beds. But for a girl from a city that never rested, it was far too early to turn in.
Next to her was Riku, his hand gently wrapped around her own. His pinstripe suit made him look so handsome, she mused with a smile. She leaned close to his passed out figure and kissed him lightly on the cheek. He was the reason she kept dancing, even when the heels were making her feel as if she’d never walk normally again.
Donald twitched in his sleep, letting out a loud screech of rage as he flailed, fists hitting an imaginary target. Goofy compensated for the additional noise by snoring louder. How Riku managed to sleep through that, she’d never really understand.
Silk draped across her bed, folded onto the floor in an overly elegant manner, and she realized that she was too spoiled for her own good. The pillows called to her, fresh, fluffed, and all too comfortable. She sighed and looked away, the clock ticking away, like the tsking sound of a metronome.
Her eyes drooped closed and she sighed heavily, squeezing Riku’s hand just a bit. And then there was knocking on the door, which opened after a soft “Come in.” Riku jerked awake and looked around, eyebrows drawn together, cursing himself for falling asleep while Kairi had been talking.
The chandelier lighting the room shook, and the door opened and a small mouse walked inside, a wide smile on his face.
“Mickey!” Kairi breathed, jumping up and almost dragging Riku with her. She ran towards the center of the room, scooping the mouse into a hug. “When did you arrive?”
