I was in sore need of distraction today so I started flipping through channels as I had my morning coffee. Suddenly, I see Mulder and Scully on the screen, looking incredibly young and fresh, driving into Bellefleur, Oregon on a case, and I realize I'm watching the pilot of the X-Filles on BBC. BBC had a mini-marathon: the pilot, "Deep Throat" and "Squeeze" (remember Eugene Tooms?).
I felt like I was gazing through a time portal. Memories of Usenet groups and telneting to email lists where discussions about every aspect of the episodes went on and on for days, rose in my mind. I remembered 'discovering' Alex Krycek in all his raw, young beauty, remembered all the fanfic that flowed like a river in flood season. Then, I thought about all the fan friends I had connected with as a result of that one show, many of whom I never 'met' face to face, but whose acquaintance enriched my life. Amazing.
Those halcyon days are gone, but the treasured memories will always be with me.
