I am the co-chair on this annual event at my parish this year. Wow. I never knew how much went into this and I'm so glad the other person knows what she's doing.
Of course, it is in November this year because our priest was adamant that we have this so it doesn't coincide with the Nativity fast. Orthodox fasts tend to be strict and if you follow all the recommended guidelines, it is vegan. I spend a lot of the year eating falafel, let me tell you. It's a good thing I love falafel and hummus. Lentils, not so much. We eat a LOT of vegan Indian dishes, and I'd definitely eat more Ethiopian cuisine (I've been given some awesome recipes) but my husband hates Ethiopian food.
Anyway, this very early pre-Thanksgiving Christmas Dinner is on par with planning a wedding reception with a raffle added on. We have door prizes, center pieces, floral arrangements, entertainment, catering, set-up and clean-up, and a bar. We also have a different theme every year. Ack! Actually, this is a lot more involved than my own wedding reception was. Heck, if I don't die of stress, I might eventually be able to break into the wedding planning business.
