Alice: Madness Returns

I just finished Alice: Madness Returns. Hmm, it wasn't too bad. Some aspects of the game were interesting, but the story was rather thin. Dialogue was really good, and the Cheshire cat is awesome as always. It's a shame he had the same role from the first game. I like him ( Read more... )

yeah, i got around 80% of the bottles. wasn't the red queen like some alien/monster thing in the first game? i suppose lizzie as the red queen has something to do with guilt. and the lack of other people might suggest how horrible they are to her in real life, so she doesn't want them around in wonderland. except for the dollhouse, since that's important ( ... )

I'm not sure what other gameplay they could have incorporated while staying true to what the original was.... which is.. Alice at it's heart is again basically a platformer\third person shooter (although they made it more hack and slash\emphasized the melee combat in the sequel more ( ... )

BTW I forgot to mention the music was one of my favorite parts of the game and it was actually done by Chris Vrenna... a former member of Nine Inch Nails! He did the music for the first game too!

my favorite tune is actually the one that plays on the ps3 menu, when im on the cd icon. it's a version of the main theme, but i like it a lot. i can't find it though.

shooting big pig snouts was amusing. i was expecting the duchess to try and eat alice eventually. i just wish the gameplay wasn't so repetitious, as that's its biggest flaw. without all the padding, the game would have been very short. i just hated realizing i was going to be doing the same thing over and over, for a long time.

*shrugs* i just wasn't the right person for the game. the game and music were lovely, but it wasn't exciting to play.

I guess I was that right person for the game because it was exiting for me! I even enjoyed the gameplay. I was giddy with excitement. To each their own as they say.

But yeah the duchess she DID try to eat Alice in the first game but apparently she really did lose her taste for mad women! In fact in the first game that pepper gun she gave Alice was the very gun she tried to pepper Alice with before eating her in the first game when Alice went to confront her and get the tortoises shell back for him!

It probably would have helped if they would have kept the amount of weapons they had in the original rather than pair it down to maybe 2 melee and 2 ranged weapons and allow you a more free camera while shooting. So that way you could use more varied tactics during the combat and it would have felt less repetitive. Although I find most games tend to be repetitive to a degree so it's a matter of taste when you come down to it in my opinion.

yeah, all games are repetitive. the story or varied gameplay or something helps break it up. i think of assassin's creed brotherhood where they added more challenge, and made the missions more varied. while it was the same thing over and over, i never really felt bored of playing. there was some feshness to keep it going.

honestly, i was sad when the game wasn't what i was hoping for. it would have been nice if at least each chapter had a new way of playing. and when alice was in london, it would have been if something could be done there too, as it was really just intermission, and i did think to myself what is the point of this? and i had to look at all the creepy people. XD

i know, toward the end it made more sense, but i kind of wanted to explore this grungy london.

Speaking of AC Bro what did you think of the ending? I didn't see what happened in it coming! Apparently stabbing Lucy especially with the influence of the animus and Juno (if I remember her name correctly) put Ezio into shock and into a coma and for the beginning of Revelations he's going to be stuck in the animus haivng to find his way out or something... I can't wait for AC Revelations.

Also I might agree there's room for improvement with Alice and in fact I do... we can always hope they make another one with the stuff they learned making Madness Returns as they lacked experience making AAA titles whilemaking it. But to be frank I wouldn't expect a totally different game as it is a series after all and they usually try to stay true to what the previous installments where.

the ending of ACB was quite something. im curious to find out what is the deal with lucy. im excited for the new installment too. each one keeps getting better, so i hope this one will be a lot of fun. finally we'll get some answers! the whole concept of AC is intriguing, it makes me wonder if i had any cool ancestors like that. XD

they should make another alice game, the ending seems like it would allow for another. i am curious as to why the blending of the two places came together, though maybe a game isn't really necessary.
