My Interesting Day

Ok, so yeah I've been working out. I've had 3 total sessions and the woman kicks my ass pretty good. So much so that sometimes I can't lift my arms. But I've been feeling stronger. I was planning on describing my experience, but my arms were too tired.

I went to a hair appointment in the warehouse district today to get some highlights put in my hair. I have this auburn hair that has sort of been ME my whole life, and while it is still auburn, as I've gotten older it is a little dull. So gold highlights are the answer (and honestly, not the point of this post).

My hairstylist, Andrea, finished putting all the foils in my hair then she went to grab a quick bite to eat. So while I'm sitting there waiting for the color in my hair to magically change, I spot a man walking in the door via the mirror in front of me. I immediately recognize him as one of the catchers for the MN Twins -- Mike Redmond. Now, I am the ONLY person in the salon that recognizes him... and I'm dying. I'm way too shy to just say anything, but of course my head whips around and I'm sure he noticed that I recognize him. Mike Redmond backs up Joe Mauer. Joe Mauer being the good looking 23 year old, leading MLB in batting average catcher. But Mike is awesome - he also has a great batting average and he is in many ways the leader of the team -- especially because I think he may be the oldest guy on the team at 35. So for me to recognize him could have been considered a compliment I suppose, but I didn't say anything --- but my heartbeat starts increasing. So the stylist cutting his hair, sits him next to me to wash his hair and while she's doing this she 'gets to know him' the way hairstylists usually do... and eventually she gets around to asking him why he was in Kansas City recently (as he had mentioned)... and he says, "I play baseball with the Minnesota Twins." The hairstylist then says, "How's that working for ya?" I am dying even more at this point because DUH!!!! And I'm incredibly nervous.

So then he takes a seat behind me. There is another person sitting next to me who is apparently cutting off her hair after 20 years and her and her friend are sqealing and I wanted to scream, "Shut up!!! I'm trying to overhear a conversation!" Finally Andrea comes back and I whisper intensely, "There is a MN Twin over there!!!" She's like, "Really? that is so cool." I feel a little better. Then she rinses me out, cuts my hair a little and I'm finished. Andrea then walks me over to pay and on the way says to Mike Redmond, "Hey, here is the only person in the salon that recognized you." He sticks out his hand and says, "Hi, nice to meet you. My name is Mike." I shake his hand and tell him my name, although looking back I was feeling so shy at that moment I don't think I managed to make eye contact. I did tell him how happy I was that the Twins re-signed him. I also then managed to say what a life-long fan I've been... So then I went to pay, and his stylist said loud enough for me to hear, "you made her day." and I said something like, "Yeah, everyone is going to hear this story!" Mike said, "Just make sure to talk up the back of my head where I'm losing some hair." Then I had to add, "Well you have more hair than Jesse Crain!" He goes, "Hey thanks, I'll take that as he's 10 years younger than me." So maybe I made his day. He also asked me if I was going to the game tonight and then I wished him good luck.

Then I left and was absolutely DYING to tell Jen. But Jen was out of town. I got to my scooter, opened my seat up and grabbed the cell phone. She didn't answer. As I'm driving home, all I can think is that I'm going to get into some horrible accident, land in the hospital with a tube down my throat and be unable to tell ANYONE my story.
