This weekend saw me baking in the sun in the northern Mississippi city of Batesville. Why? To give a friend a ride because he got booked to work in a wrestling show at a car lot. Yep. "C'mon down and watch rasslin, look at our car deals and eat some hot dogs! Come see WWE legend Jerry "The King" Lawler. Get an autograph and a new Hyundai!"
I filmed the whole thing as I do all the wrestling shows our group puts on. This time even got involved during the show. I get involved in our shows all the time as I'm the ringside commentator and ring announcer and dj and bell ringer etc. This was somebody else's show and I was just a spectator. Until Jerry Lawler's match was over.
Jerry's opponent was the "nephew" of Greg "The Hammer" Valentine - Cameron Valentine. He has a family reseblance and a recreation of Hammer's robe. Cameron's manager had a cane that got used in the match against Jerry. After Jerry won the match, he took the cane and threatened to break it. The manager - Hollywood
Jimmy Blaylock - begged him not to smash the family heirloom. An heirloom passed on by both his 8x great grandfather and Colonel Tom Parker.
So I offered $2 for it. Lawler did double-take and asked me what I yelled. I repeated and thus began a bidding war for this "family heirloom". A friend of mine got the bid up to $100 and had Blaylock screaming his begs not to sell the cane. Lawler said he couldn't rightly sell someone else's property and then broke the cane over his knee. Lawler threw shards of the bamboo out to different sides of the ring as kids clamored for the strips. When he had just the handle left he looked for me and tossed it to me.
I then had every kid in the audience asking for me to give it to them. I reminded them he gave it to me. I then went to the locker room to offer it to my working friends to use in their upcoming 6 man tag match. They didn't want to use it as they didn't plan to be in the sun that long.
I went to Lawler's table where he offered pictures to autograph and everything else.
I had him sign it to The Big Galoot and asked for his booking info. I then asked if he does voice over work. My friends and I are working on an animated short called The Squared Circle. We plan to kill every big name wrestler that comes to our show a' la kenny on South Park. He loved the idea.
So now I'm exuding enough heat to keep the a/c constantly turning on and enjoying a day with the King.
