The Heimlich Maneuver - J2 Style

Jul 01, 2007 14:57

Jared is studying to be a paramedic and practices the Heimlich Maneuver on his partner, Jensen. The following is his study notes.

Jared's Step-by-Step Guide to a Successful Heimlich Manuever

(I have absolutely mutilated the proper Heimlich Maneuver procedures)

1. First, ask Jensen if he prefers to be in a standing or sitting postion (in this case, an upright postion is established);

2. Postion yourself slightly behind Jensen's standing form;

3. Reassure Jensen that you know what you're doing and will make him feel better;

4. Wrap your arms around Jensen's waist;

5. Grasp one hand with the other to get a better grip, at a position just above the belly button;

6. Deliver 5 rapid upward 'squeeze and thrusts' into Jensen;

7. Ensure each squeeze-thrust is strong and forceful;

8. Understand that the thrusts can make Jensen out of breath and a raspy cough is to be expected;

9. Keep a firm grip on Jensen as he could lose conciousness depending on the effectiveness of the maneuvers;

10. Repeat the Heimlich maneuver until the foreign body is expelled from Jensen.

Success! Now rest for a bit and try again. After all, practice makes perfect!!!

And a bonus one - please will someone expand on this?

Jared is a yoga instructor and Jensen is his limber student. Jared is always putting Jensen in unusal positions, determined to massage his prostate.

(OMG - that is actually true: "Yoga is perhaps the only form of activity which massages all the internal glands and organs of the body in a thorough manner, including those - such as the prostate - that hardly get externally stimulated during our entire lifetime.")
