So the place I'm working at now pays us monthly, rather than the usual fortnightly. I guess it saves them on payroll costs or something. At first I didn't really care, the money all goes through, right? But now it's starting to piss me off. It makes managing your finances surprisingly much harder ( Read more... )

It's annoying for sure, spare a thought for those who get paid 6 monthly or yearly...although your company is smaller yeah? I thought only larger companies paid monthly only cos it would take up too much time for payroll staff if they did it weekly.

Chris - who that you know of only get paid once or twice a year???

I think you're right in that monthly pay is typical of larger companies, but it seems like Gordo's company is taking a smart approach and taking cost savings where they can...

Sucks for Gordon though.

It sounds like that person is getting paid to perform a particular service for the mine site, as a contractor. That way they get paid in installments for a fixed price service rather than someone paid wages...

Yeah, I'd hate to be getting paid in installments larger than a month. I think for large companies it's easier to do it fortnightly becuase they'll actually have a payroll department, or at least someone who handles all the financials. We don't have that, it's outsourced. So I'm guessing they get charged per run.
