I'm not going to argue about it. TOS is a legally binding agreement. They will find new users. People will eventually adjust and come to terms with the change. It is a calculated business decision. These are facts NOT opinions.
I don't like it but that's the way life is. And if you think otherwise you're fooling yourself.
But it doesn't hurt to try to make a point. If they value their current users/customers they would listen. But not all companies do. They figure, yeah we piss off/scare off a few people now but think of the money we'll be getting once we've implemented the change and gotten new users. Actually they've shown that the current "US" is of some importantce to them maybe not as much as the future "US", but still some. That's why they were going to change it so new accounts were going to have ads and not all accounts. They were hoping to please us (b/c yes we are $ to them) and when we still got upset about it that's why they said they were trying to make it so current users could sign up for new accounts and still be ad free. They're trying to please us while still make more money on future accounts. And honestly you're not going to keep them from doing that. Besides all of this makes us sound like greedy children fighting for candy; like we're saying "No, I want MORE!" Think about that.
Go ahead make your point. Don't use LJ for a whole day. We can screw them over... Big time. But they're just going to dump LJ on another company and who knows what they will be like. Think of it as a negotiation. If we're going to demand something we've got to let them have something in return or their going to resent it.
Yeah the change will come... but as I have said before, SUP *has* to deal with us.
It Has to, if it intends to maintain LJ with what will continue to make LJ succeed.
And the Content Boycott is only one level to this venture.
There are those who are negotiating and there are those who are demonstrating.
The Content ban shows those who are voicing and able to negotiate that they have the support of thier community behind them.
Moral support... like Supporting American troops in Iraq even if you don't support the Bush administrative decisions.
Some of us must speak, and those who can not must show support.
It is the point of the Content Strike to make our point loud and clear. To ensure that SUP knows that the community is united, and that the userbase is a force to be recond with.
And who really cares what other company comes... whatever company takes charge will always have to deal with the userbase... in all its dynamics, childlike behaviours, power and exspresion.
It is what LJ is - and that is what they purchased.. A service as well as a living legacy and growing entity.

back when Six Apart decided to try and limit posting to x-posts for x-account depending on level..
like 5 posts for basic users, 10 for paid, 15 for perms and early ads...
the community went up in arms and the decission, as you know, was dropped... cause here we are - still able to post as much as we like.
Why? Because there was a large enough show of support for the wishes of the community. The community pushed back, and the hosters listened.
SUP is no different, and they shouldn't be alowed to believe that they are...
simply because they wish to run a buisness.
They will get what they want, if we allow them to.
They in return must give to us...
like you said - negotiation... if they are going to demand something they have to let us get something in return for it or we will resent it.
that was why they dropped the censorship component...
they had enough flack for it, and now they have more.
I'm not deluded, but i have confidence in the LJ community, because I've seen what it can do and I know what it is capable of, and I know that the LJ community does get results.

those who are negotiating are negotiating.
the intense critism has sent its message to SUP.
Tomorrow simply shows the commitment of the community to be exactly that - community.
