There are a lot of stories about them. [The tone implies the negative side; Ami is from Japan after all, where old tales about Mermaids get quite violent and vicious.]

No, it's nothing. Some of those stories aren't nice, but I haven't met a mermaid until now, so I have no reason to believe them.

It's probably that sort of story. But I really don't believe it just because of stories.

[She's not really Usagi, who could come at this with love and faith and acceptance. But she does know how painful it was to be shut out because of rumors that weren't true. She won't do it to someone else.]
