So, in Southern California everything is burning. On Sunday my dad and I talked, he said he ran up the mountain near his house, and he saw all three fires. You can see pretty far from up there, and one of them he just meant the smoke. It isn't currently a concern in his neighborhood. I got plenty of info on the fire from him.
My mom is in town to do some dog sitting. She won't be leaving once the dog sitting ends. She is stuck up here for awhile because of the fires. The place they are staying... where I have a room under the stairs with all my star wars collectibles [first time i realized it]... is in San Diego. There is a voluntary evacuation recommendation right now. Step-dad, dogs, and important files are hanging out with friends near my dad.
All of this left me with the desire to learn more about the situation. So I watched the T.V. news. First I saw a guy, whom would probably get a heart attack if he checked Baka's computer history, who was complaining about being tricked into letting his children read about a gay wizard. He was retarded, and trying to say he was being discriminated against. The rest of the people on the show were saying 'dude, shut up.'
When they started talking about the fire, this is what i learned.
"This is the biggest peacetime evacuation in the U.S. since the Civil War."
They provided data about how many people, pointed out that more people are evacuating from the fire then did from hurricane katrina, and talked about illegal immigrants turning themselves in to get sent away from the fire. Makes sense right? Read again.
"This is the biggest peacetime evacuation in the U.S. since the Civil War."
See it this time? Two big problems.
Number 1-
Civil War is not peacetime. maybe peacetime in other countries, but we aren't talking about other countries, we're talking about U.S.
Number 2-
They spent a lot of time talking about us being underprepared because national gaurd type programs have been tapped for the stuff in that foriegn place. War on Terror. I mean, victory accomplished happened years ago, but we're still over there. I don't think it's peacetime yet.
I'm done.
