Yet again, I had another fun weekend in Newaygo.
The battle of the bands went well, I guess, except it turned out not to be a competition, and the guys running the event were pretty evil and cut Dave and Rory and the rest of Chump Change short, they only got to play about 4 of their 10 songs they had planned on playing. But they did a nice job, it was fun.
And later that same Saturday I got to see Steve Cain and some other friends perform in The Philadelphia Story, and they did a great job. Though I was very tired during the beginning of the play, I had a good time and enjoyed it.
Afterwards, some of my friends and I stayed afterwards and Paul took us around backstage and we got to go in some of the places we weren't suppsed to go, such as the catwalk and the very top of the building (basically a space right below the roof, about 80 feet above the stage or so). It was cool, we got to mess around and stuff. We planned on shooting scenes for Steve's film later that night, but right when they showed up the power in the whole building went out due to the huge storm that was taking place outside, so we had to rush out of there before the cops showed up or something.
And Sunday we basically just hung out around the Cain's place, I got to meet some of the relatives again (the same ones I met two weekends before).
That night we drove back to Lansing and hung out at Dave's apartment. Monday we walked around Lansing doing stuff. I got to meet the son and daughter of the authors of the famous children's book Stranger in the Woods (the one about the animals who see the snowman and don't know what it is). The kids are the ones that made the movie of the book. They're working on another film their parents wrote, and Dave has a chance to help them out with that. They were really nice, I haven't seen siblings that nice to each other since, well, Dave and Steve.
So once again, I had a great time in Newaygo with all of my new friends. Hopefully I can go back to visit them sometime soon. Maybe for the premiere of La Mano II or something.
Now I'm back to my normal, dull, lazy life for a few more weeks until school starts up. Until then…
What movies I watched:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Good movie, it flew by because I knew what was coming next every time, the Oompa Loompas were great. Johnny Depp was okay, seemed a little out of place, maybe a bit forced, but he did a good job.
The Quick and the Dead - Nice film, directed by our own Sam Raimi. I checked it out again to see if I could see my man Bill Vincent, but I couldn’t see him, oh well, I know he’s there somewhere.
And I’ve been watching The Office, I love that show. I own the whole series on DVD and I thought I’d check it out again. Ricky Gervais is perfect.
