Stole this from a friend.
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before? Rode my bike to Mackinaw City (granted it was only from Boyne City, but oh well)
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? Well, if you count not drinking pop, my resolution from 2000, then yes, I've still kept it.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes, my oldest brother. Last month I became an uncle for the first time.
4. Did anyone close to you die? Nope, thankfully
5. What countries did you visit? None, I'm too lazy. I tried riding my bike to Canada in the summer, but the idea came to me about a week before school started, so I couldn't follow up on it, maybe next summer.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005? More money, 2005 has been the year when I was very short on cash.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? For three weekends in a row during the summer, I went to my friend Dave Cain's house and worked on a movie with him and his friends. It was the most fun I've had making a movie. Everyone seemed like equals, we all had the same jobs, the director Rory Webb and me, the measly PA type person, did the same jobs. I had an awesome time, I thought to myself, if this is what filmmaking is like, then I'm proud to be a part of it. It was my first time being a part of a movie and actually getting to say that I actually contributed to it.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Making my directorial debut. Granted, it was only a 2 minute short film, but I was pretty proud of myself.
9. What was your biggest failure? I've probably had a ton, but I can't really think of any right now. Maybe it was trying out for The Show and Sideshow and not getting into either of them.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I got stitches on my right eyebrow. I don't really want to go into great detail, but it was very stupid, and could probably be added to number 9.
11. What was the best thing you bought? I guess it would be my newest bike, it's very cool and it's gotten me around places.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Well, the people that I know, actor Jason Carter, and some of my other friends. Of celebrities, probably Conan O'Brien and Jon Stewart, but they deserve celebration every year.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? Nobody really from my friends, but of celebrities, Tom Cruise.
14. Where did most of your money go? School and movies, but mostly school
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Helping make a professional movie. And making a few amateur movies. And going caving again in Kentucky. And whitewater rafting in West Virginia.
16. What songs will always remind you of 2005? "This Year" by The Mountain Goats. "Life is a Rock" by Reunion. "Moon Shadow" by Cat Stevens.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder? Happier because of the people I've met and the work I've done related to film. Sadder because some of the really stupid stuff I've done personally.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Riding my bike, working on more movies, and going to the beach more.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Sleeping in very very late during the summer.
20. How will you be spending Christmas? Hopefully spending it right next to Lake Michigan in Northern Michigan.
22. Did you fall in love in 2005? Nope.
23. How many one night stands? None.
24. What were your favorite TV programs? Lost, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Not really
26. What was the best book you read? The Dark Tower books (I can't remember which ones I read this year, but they're so awesome)
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Indie Rock, particularly The Mountain Goats.
28. What did you want and get? To work on more movies than I did in 2004
29. What did you want and not get? I wanted to submit my script to some contests, but never followed up on it.
30. What was your favorite film of this year? Sin City, Batman Begins, Munich, Capote, Good Night, and Good Luck, 40 Year-Old Virgin and some others.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 20 and went whitewater rafting in West Virginia. It was probably the best birthday I can remember. The rafting was fun, but it was probably the meeting of new people and partying into the night.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Going to Bridgman more often and going to the Traverse City Film Festival.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005? Shorts and T shirt, pretty creative, eh?
34. What kept you sane? Movies
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Conan O'Brien, as usual, George Clooney, and Jimmy Carter
36. What political issue stirred you the most? Those evil Republicans and their evil doings.
37. Who did you miss? My friends from Bridgman.
38. Who was the best new person you met? Many of the people in my dorm hall, the cast and crew of La Mano II, and the cast and crew of The Final Curtain.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005: Stealing it from Elizabeth "You have to fuck when they can't." Great words to live by, as told by a Celtic actor to the awesome Jason Carter.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: "I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me." This Year by The Mountain Goats.
