And I need some longform space to do it.
Do you ever think Jaqen is like "a man wishes a girl would've let him die in the wagon"? Heh. He looked so proud of Arya when she left, though. I was certainly proud of her; she is so much her father's child, which is why she is my favorite. Well, one of my favorites.
My favorite favorite is BRIENNE. BRRRIIIEEENNNNNNNEEEEE. Her scenes with Jamie this week were so beautiful. On the one hand, the show really doubled down on Jamie's obsession with Cersei, but on the OTHER hand, you cannot deny the moral and romantic tension between Jamie and Brienne, particularly that last lingering look goodbye as he let her go (when he should not have - his hasty look around to see if anyone saw her was telling of that). In a sense, Brienne is Jamie's moral 'angel' to Cersei's 'devil.' And watching her leave is, I think, him watching his honor leave with her. He knows he got into Riverrun in an underhanded manner (would he actually have done all he told Edmure? I genuinely don't know, which is not a great compliment to Jamie), and even though he saved many lives in doing it, he firmly planted his flag for his house. Which is to be expected, particularly from a man who has spent his whole adult life being called "Kingslayer" and "Oathbreaker" in voices dripping with scorn. But still, there seems to be a (large) part of him that wishes he could let all that go, and go with Brienne. Even if not romantically (though I will ship them forever, lbr).
ALSO,
spoilers for next week's episode: my BIGGEST FEAR regarding Ramsay Bolton is that next week when he and the Stark army are engaged in battle, that the White Walkers are going to show up and he and Jon will have to WORK TOGETHER. And he gets something out of it, too. Like Sansa back or Winterfell, if he lends his forces to the fight. AUGH. I cannot take that level of moral darkness, please don't do this, show. Heh.
One of the other things I realized last night while I was pondering my Jamie and Brienne feelings is that I finally figured out my shipping 'type' - a more beta-y type who desperately admires a strong, usually ethically solid character. See: Jamie (don't tell me this dude is not a sub, I will fight you)/Brienne; Vecchio/Fraser; Lee/Laura (in the early seasons, at least); Archie/Horatio; Blackwall/Inquisitor Adaar; John/Aeryn; Ichabod/Abbie; Mahone/Michael; Nomi/Amanita. It all fits. Dudes who love strong ladies are my particular kryptonite, but it translates into all my shipping preferences. (Also, actually liking each other is key, too; the adoration has to be equal in quantity if not reason.)
(I am not actively ignoring the Orlando shooting, FYI. My heart is with my LGBTQ friends and family today, and every day. I'm putting my horror into action in the offline space, and using my journal for what I've always used it for, a place for sharing fannish love.)
