We just sent off our last house guest and though I have to jump back into the buttloads of work I have to do, I wanted to take a few minutes to offload a few items before the end of the year!
1.) Most important:
More Joy Day is returning again in 2015! (Click the previous link to see what it's all about.) It's a little later than usual to give all of us time to get our feet under us and make it a grand day. This year it will be January 15, 2015. Can you believe this will be our EIGHTH year doing this? Holy smokes.
2.) I loved the Legend of Korra finale so much. For anyone who dropped off after seasons 1 or 2, jump back on for seasons 3 or 4. The show continued to grow in quality all the way through the end, and the finale was (mostly) satisfying.
I do wish we'd gotten an actual Korra/Asami kiss, but the unequivocal statement of Korra/Asami coupledom from the creators really eased my mind, especially since they implied that their hands were tied on the kissing front thanks to Nickelodeon.
3.) Tomorrow is the LAST EVER Selfie. I'M NOT OKAY. All I want (if I can't have more of the show) is make-outs and I'm just really not feeling like we're going to get them. What a loss. However I am reading and learning a ton about Pygmalion, so don't say fandom never taught ya nothing.
4.) I have a BUNCH of Yuletide fic tabs open thanks to everybody's recs! So far I've read all three Selfie fics (liked them all, but the road trip one was my favorite) and a Brooklyn 99 fic that was so spot-on in voices it was almost kind of creepy (the elf on the shelf one). Hee. But I loved it. I rec'd it on Twitter, which is still my primary social media contact these days since it's easiest to do from my phone (more on social media at the end of this post, actually).
5.) Waving the "YOU CAN DO IT" flag for all Festivids participants! I'm eagerly awaiting all of the vids y'all are making!
6.) Though it will not be very noticeable here on LJ/DW, I am taking a social media break in January. No Twitter, Facebook, LJ/DW, or Tumblr. I'm feeling a little addicted lately, and more significantly, I'm feeling like I'm using up time I want to be spending in other ways because it's so easy (and fun!) to just hang out on social media and have a constant incoming stream of information. My goal for the month is to vid (I got NO VIDDING TIME during this holiday break, when I had banked on getting a bunch, so I'm especially itching for this), to work on my photography, and to do some thinking about my life to get it back under my control instead of just coasting along. The new year is motivating to me and I'm going to capitalize on it.
I will still be checking email daily (I'm not a monk), so if you need something or just want to say hello, you can email me! sdwolfpup (at) gmail (dot) com . I'll also receive alerts from FB and Twitter and Tumblr if you'd rather contact me that way or share a link or something for February. I'll also be around on 15 January for More Joy Day, of course!
My only concern with this social media shutdown is that I work from home and often social media is the only real socializing I get during the whole week, so if I find it too isolating to be cut off completely, I may set up a system where I come online for 30-60 minutes once a day or something. But we'll see. I have high hopes of doing the following during this month:
- Getting my focus back for work
- Completing my Selfie vid (which I will go online to post if I finish)
- Finally going through my outstanding photos since July to post to my photo tumblr (tjgphotos)
- Finally taking the Photography 101 course I signed up for LAST January
- Making a 1-5-10 year list of things I'd like to do professionally and personally, so that I can start actively planning towards the things I want most
I think that's enough to pack into a month. I hope it works. I will report back in February on what I actually managed to complete, and hopefully that will help keep me at it, too.
Motivation is tough.
If I don't make it back to LJ/DW before January 1st, I wish you all the best this new year! Thank you for being here as you have been for 10+ years now for me. I love LJ/DW still, even if I'm not as active here as I was. It feels more like home than anywhere else, and I'd miss it if it (and you!) were gone entirely.
