I've been LJ-avoidant lately, reading my flist for the most part but not feeling very talkative (hence the many unanswered comments as well). I'm not sure why, except that I've been kind of life-avoidant lately, except for Puplet and AHH. I notice I go through these phases, so I'm not surprised by it. It also coincides with my recent obsession with Dragon Age: Origins, AKA the Game That Ate My Soul. All of my non-family free time has been spent playing this game, and now I have the PERFECT vidsong for it and no source, so I am going Old Skool and hooking up this old-ish (5+ years) Archos recorder I have to my TV and recording source that way. However, because of the way our fancy TV is set up, the only way to have the Archos capture video is to use it as the TV screen, which means I have to play the game ON this Archos to get to the cutscenes, and the screen is, literally, like three inches across. Fantastic. Not to mention the vid song is a live version of a never released song, so the quality is sketchy there as well. Fortunately I am making this vid for myself and AHH, so I don't really ultimately care about the quality, but I still find the whole thing kind of vaguely hilarious anyway.
Of course, all of that is for naught right now because the disc broke. /o\ WEAKSAUCE. We have rented another one from Blockbuster in the hopes that it will work. (On-the-spot reporting: it does! \o/)
I am vid-itchy in general, though, because I have MULTIPLE ideas I am genuinely REALLY EXCITED about and I can't figure out which one to work on.
So there's this Dragon Age vid which, once I get the source issue settled, should happen quickly and with little-to-no forethought as it is an exercise in pure Id. I can't wait, even though it has an audience of two.
Then there is the STUNNINGLY AWESOME Dessa vidsong I found for Meg from The Replacement Killers which has been rotating in my brain for a couple of days and is tempting me with multiple factors: short, limited source; female character focus; new artist pimping potential; I am SO IN LOVE with the idea that it's eating my brain. But it's also a brand new idea and I have so very many on my list already.
Then there is the GOB from Arrested Development vid I'm planning to make for Club Vivid. I have all the source ripped and the song ready to go, but I really have no plan at all and I'm nervous about just throwing random things at the timeline, although it's a hilarious, fun vid idea so why SHOULDN'T I just throw stuff at the timeline and see what forms out of that? Treat it like modeling clay! Let it reveal itself to me! IDK, IDK.
Then there is the sublimely ridiculous Castiel vidsong that
minim-calibre foisted on a handful of us about seven months ago that came up on my iPod again today and I just got both season 3 and 4 of Supernatural in the mail as a gift so I could actually make it now and I was mentally vidding it and cracking myself the hell up. Plus it's a comedy vid, and short, and, truly, you should see how much I was laughing just thinking about it. Except I really need some source from season 5 to make it just right, and that I don't have. So I think I'll table this one until that happens.
Not to mention the David Norris from Boomtown vid song that just came up on the iPod and said "HEY THIS WAS AN AWESOME IDEA, WHAT ABOUT ME?" and I went "...damn you." The insane Pinocchio idea AHH and I came up with a couple of days ago. A season 1-2 Supernatural vid that I have had on my list for a couple of years now and has been tickling my brain lately as the show leaves me out of sorts. The Fraser POV, Fraser/Vecchio vidsong that came up the other day that I suddenly really want to make because I know the source so well it should be relatively easy to do and I want to show why Fraser loves Vecchio because he REALLY REALLY DOES. The Joyce from Buffy vid that if I could just get the source ripped would be quick and simple and a nice return to my first vidding fandom and also possibly a way to get me back into the source pool so I could make the Buffy vid idea I've had for like five years.
You see my dilemma. I think the Meg vid is currently winning, though. That and Dragon Age. I'm sorry pages of other vid ideas. I'll get to some of you some day. I PROMISE.
During my LJ-avoidance I have been attempting to get through the many, many, MANY tabs I have open in Firefox. (Every time I close one, I seem to open three more.) As a result: vid recs.
God's Country by
astartexx (Supernatural) - A stunning Jo vid that really celebrates and mourns the character appropriately.
Blind Hope by
heresluck (Firefly) - MY SHOW. That's about as coherent as you're going to get from me here. Hope and love and family.
Let It Rock - A Kris Allen & Adam Lamber "friendship" vid that is the most shippy thing I've ever seen.
I Could Be There For You by
sol-se - A vidlet for the short film Statuesque. Captivating and intriguing and made me want to seek out the source.
Suffrage by
e-transitions - A moving vid of the movie Iron Jawed Angels which covers the suffrage movement and all that women went through to get us the right to vote. Powerful.
Glass Coffin by
giandujakiss (VR.5) - OMG IT'S A VR5 VID. That was pretty much my first response when I saw it. It's also a perfectly chosen song for Sydney. I've forgotten most of what I know about this show, but this vid reminds me of why I loved it.
I think it is bedtime for me.
