I need to pull all of the songs off of my iPod onto my computer. Normally I do this with no problems with iDump, and I have pulled all but about 1000 songs successfully so far. But it WILL NOT pull these last thousand songs, no matter what I do. It keeps telling me there are bad file names, but even if I change the file names, it doesn't make a ( Read more... )

I do it by hand! In this instance, this means turning on the 'view hidden files and folders' option, then double-clicking on 'iPod Control', and from there into 'Music'. Those last thousand files should be there in one of the folders. Drag and drop to wherever you want to go (I just put it on a desktop because I'm LAZY). Don't worry about the ridiculous filenames - play it, and the internal information tells you what the song is.
From its new position, you may drag and drop into iTunes (a handy trick I discovered recently). Runs like a dream, and maintains all song information.

Last tested all of five seconds ago with a 3rd Gen iPod Nano, transferring an m4a file, on Vista Home Basic. Should work on most current Windows models.

Yeah I thought about doing it by hand but the weird file names put me off. Still, it would be way better to HAVE the music than to pine away at it helplessly. That's interesting I can drag and drop it into iTunes, I didn't know that.

Thank you for the suggestion!

I do have a PC, should've added that. Winamp does that? Really? Well kick ass. I will give that a shot!

Thank you for the suggestion!

I feel like staying home from VVC this year means next year I will try to be better about posting a con report since I see now how very much *I* want to read them. Heh.

Next year I shall not have class, and you will not be ready to pop; we will be in the Vividcon hotel lobby clinging to random people that we hope are vidders and downing drinks with little umbrellas in them. :D
