1. Vid rec:
Wrong by
sweetiejen - A SPN vid about Sam. It's quickly cut (it took my eyes a bit to get into the pace of it), but it fits the song, and she uses the theme of blood exceedingly well throughout. It comes to a really cool crescendo, too.
2. That meme everybody's doing right now.
Name your 10 absolutely favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms.
Not in any particular order!
1. Fraser/Vecchio (due South - originally typed that as 'die South' which would be a totally different show!)
2. Michael/Mahone (Prison Break)
3. Laura/Lee (BSG)
4. Horatio/Archie (Horatio Hornblower)
5. John/Aeryn (Farscape)
6. Dean/Castiel (SPN)
7. Karl/Reena (Charlie Jade)
8. Buffy/Spike (B:tVS)
9. Elizabeth/John (SGA)
10. Jim/Pam (The Office)
This was hard for me in the opposite way it is for most people: finding enough couples I feel strongly enough about to consider my "absolute favorites," especially across different fandoms. I could've dipped into the dS waters a few more times, easily! The top five I would say I'm most fervently attached to, so much that I have strong (if not sole) preferences for those relationships over others in fic, and the rest I feel strongly about, but don't have a problem reading variations of. (I've come around on the John/Aeryn thing; I can see a slender season 1 offshoot possibility of Aeryn/D'Argo, but after season 2, especially, no way do I part them.)
One thing I have noted about my shipping preferences is
that I really (typically) don't get into a couple until they are equals who start working together. Michael/Alex I started getting even more hardcore into them once they were actively working together. Same with Buffy/Spike - I came into that pairing via Once More With Feeling, so to me they started out as equals working together, which I looooove. Laura/Lee didn't totally grab me until they got thrown in jail at the end of season 1/beginning of season 2. And while I knew Archie loved Horatio immediately, I couldn't get totally invested until they were partners more than Archie being a subordinate. So. Equality = it's what gets me going!
Can I say that the amount of jail-based fannish glee I have is starting to get a little worrisome, though? Hee. (Horatio and Archie in jail! Lee and Laura in jail! Michael and Alex in jail! When Fraser and Vecchio go to jail! What the heck, subconscious?)
3. Boomtown! We are powering (for us) through the episodes right now. We've seen through episode 9, which according to the DVDs is "Coyote," but according to the episode guides should actually be "The David McNorris Show." Huh. Anyway,
AHH and I both are still really enjoying the show a lot. Joel is fairly sanctimonious and would be almost unbearable if not for the tragedy of his own personal life, his willingness to apologize when he is wrong about things, and his friendship with Fearless. I loved seeing more of Fearless' story in "The Freak," but that jump off of the hotel onto the car, shooting two Russian mobsters on his way down, was RIDICULOUS. I know it's a network show and so I can't hold certain cable standards to it, but come on. The show tries to hard to be grounded in reality the rest of the time, that stood out as being just silly. He could have at least been injured from the jump.
I'm SO GLAD that Andrea broke it off with David. I'm finding both of them a lot more interesting and sympathetic now that they're away from each other. (Though it was awfully convenient that Andrea knew who the Coyote guy was, but I'm willing to handwave that.) I suspect Joel is going to have an affair with Teresa; they're setting it up that way, at least, so I would be more surprised if it DIDN'T happen.
I run hot and cold on Ray. "Introducing Smith & Wesson" really helped me appreciate him more. Tom is just kind of adorable. And I love the music on the show! The credit song is gorgeous, and I'm often really impressed with the scoring of scenes. Part of me is considering chancing season 2, but I'm enjoying season 1 so much, I don't want to ruin my experience with the show. Heh.
I have the perfect vid song for this show already. Just thinking about it is making me happy. Eeeeee. I should take notes now while the episodes are fresh in my mind. I also should get some screencaps and make a few icons. I need a Boomtown icon, and LJ is failing to provide.
4. Happy belated birthday to the entirely delightful
writteninstars! I hope you had a wonderful day. :)
