2008 Fannish Year In Review!

Jan 01, 2009 08:49

sarkastic kicked off my new year in the best way possible by providing us with this Michael/Mahone 3x01-3x04 picspam of intense hotassery. BOYS.

I start you off with that because my year-in-review meme is weirdly depressing this year. I apologize in advance!

Because I don't think I commented on it when it was new, I just wanted to poke my head in and say that Paralyzer is made of awesome. For me, it's rare that I fully click with a vid on the first viewing, and I somehow didn't get round to the second (and third and fourth) viewings of this one until last week, but now I'm kinda giddily in love with it. It just puts a big smile on my face. And Alex has to make Michael move!

Also, I have long since lost count of how many times I've rewatched Like a Stone. I tend to bring it out whenever I work on PB fic, to put me in the right frame of mind. And I never cease to be impressed by the editing skill behind it.

Aw, thank you. I really appreciate that, especially about Like A Stone, that's a great compliment.

Though you may not be as happy with some of your output as you would like to be, I think that the shear volume of what you have created in 2008 is something to be very proud of.

One thing that is missing from this meme is an estimation of how many people you converted to a fandom/'ship with your work.

Thanks, DIYA. I actually have a bit better hope for this year, especially since Like A Stone was actually a legitimately good vid and didn't crush me the way IDCALAYS did. I think I really need to finish those two promised vids and then not promise anything else the rest of the year.

HEE.

The Sweet Charity vids are always harder; it isn't your idea, and often is far removed from your comfort zone, so I don't blame you for not wanting to do that sort of thing again.

I really believe that you are at your strongest when attempting to convert the masses to a new 'ship, or an unconventional 'ship. You have scary powers, you do! Your theme song shall be I put a spell on you. :D

I think because I allow myself to go for the emotional throat more than I do in other vids, even though I should do it in the other vids, too.

Plus, I'm extra-motivated. *g*

What a thoughtful meme. You came to the conclusion yourself that:
some of those short vids are good, and there's no law that a vidder has to make only longer, serious vids to somehow still be a vidder.Serious Vids are good but sometimes in our lives we need the short, funny vids. To give us that lift. To give that to others too. And for creating to have that sailing feeling of just being fun and not just hard work. It's a fine balance ( ... )

"Remember, this is supposed to be fun."

Wise words!

Rambling is always welcome around here. Thanks for your good comment. :)

Even though you say you're still figuring some stuff out and are disappointed by particular aspects of your output, I just wanted to let you know I think you're amazing and I really enjoyed reading your insights here. They're interesting on their own merits but they're honest and real enough to be easily accessible to other folks (like me, obvs) to look at how they might apply to our own vidding. I think it's wonderful that you take your art so seriously but can simultaneously cut yourself some slack and let the growth happen on its own terms. All we can do is keep moving forward. *hugs*

I can't wait to see what you do in 2009. I know it will be wonderful.
