IJVP - Day 13! "Mercy Now" (BSG)
Welcome to Day 13 of IJVP!
The thirteenth vidlet was suggested by thefourthvine, it's a Battlestar Galactica vid to Mary Gauthier's, "Mercy Now."

My Thoughts; What Works; What Doesn't
This vid deserves a long, thoughtful vid full of momentous imagery and slow-building tension. I know I didn't accomplish all of that, but I hope you can see the seeds of the flower I wanted to bloom. I think there's some really strong moments in here - the gun images with Lee; Kara & Adama's connections; some of the People of New Caprica shots; and the bookending with Kara praying. However surrounding that good stuff is the less-good and the downright not good. Heh. The Lee section needs a little more focus, I think. The "everyone" section could use a broader view, bring in more of the crew with more time in the song. The end is wobbly, and I swore I would not let myself use any footage from the miniseries or S1, but I think it would have benefitted from some shots from the mini and possibly even Kara and Leoben stuff from "Flesh and Bone." I also think people might take that I meant the cylon occupation as a *good* thing what with the cylons walking down the road on "grace." That wasn't what I meant.
What I Learned
This is an interesting question for this vid, because what I really did was apply things I learned from this year's IJVP experience, most notably making sure the POV and general theme was tied through the whole vid. Keeping in mind that Kara is my POV person, I wanted to ensure that she figured heavily in each section, even though she was talking about other people. And I wanted to be sure that each person she mentioned was connected to each other, hence Adama showing up in Lee's section, and both of them being a part of later sections. It really helped me focus some of my ideas, and with more time I think it would have connected together even more strongly. I also learned to trust my instincts sometimes, because I have pretty decent vidding instincts. Heh.
