Do you have a One True Fandom?
The way I'd define OTF is the fandom that, if you're multifannish, you return to consistently, and if you're monofannish, then it's the only fandom you've ever really been a part of. In the sense of fandom here, I mean talking about the show, writing fic/creating art/vidding the show, engaging in meta discussions in the show, or simply reading and lurking in areas that do any of the above.
For me, for instance, I love Star Trek: The Next Generation, and it's my earliest fandom, but it's not my OTF; it's not a fandom I have been involved with and while I still enjoy watching the episodes, it doesn't quite hold that place in my heart. Really when I think of OTFs, I think of that nameless emotion where, when you think about it, sometimes all you can think is: my show.
I'd have to say Firefly is my OTF. It's certainly the show that brought me online, that I still get warm fuzzies from thinking about. It's definitely the show I am least able to deal with criticism about it. Heh. I think if I'd found Farscape first, while it was still airing live, it might have been my OTF. That's another show that just hits me right in the heart, although not quite in the place that Firefly lives.
Though an OTF doesn't have to be a fandom you've been in for awhile; some folks have the my show feeling about Veronica Mars, and had it last year, even. Any thoughts?
(Side benefit of this post - I can cross it off of my "Posts To Make" list finally! Hee.)
Oh phooey. The trash guys just pulled up and I forgot to put the trash out. Bah!
There is actual floor space in my office now; it's like I just gained square footage in my house. Sweet.
