Last one!

Today's vidlet was suggested by vagabondage, it's a Carnivale vid to Screamin Jay Hawkin's "I Put A Spell On You." Make sure you watch this one in the dark. :)

For those of you who are just here for the vids - please right-click and 'Save Target As.' The file is DivX AVI.

I Put A Spell On You(13 MB)

Please let me know if you're unable to play the vidlet.

Lyrics
I put a spell on you
because you're mine
stop the things you do

Heheheheh
Watch out
I ain't lying

Uaaaaargh!
I love you
I love you
I love you anyhow

I don't care if you don't want me
I'm yours right now

I put a spell on you
because you're mine
Oh yeah

My Thoughts; What Works; What Doesn't
Heh, I took the lyrics as they were provided on a lyrics website, and I am endlessly amused by the inclusion of "Uaaaaargh!" as a lyric.

Aaaaanyhow, hi, welcome to the last day of IJVP. I saved for this vid for last because I knew it being Carnivale, and the subject matter, I would be very inspired. I have to admit that I freaked myself out with that last clip; after I'd laid it and watched it a couple of times to be sure it looked right, I would stop the vid just before. Hopefully it made a couple of you pull back yourselves. More hopefully, you'll take away a general creepified feeling.

This was an interesting song to vid for a couple of reasons. Obviously, there are some really unusual sounds in it, the screaming and laughing and tortured quality, which fit Justin's inner voice really well. It also is very rhythmic, with a steady, repetitive beat, and so I took the opportunity to cut *off* the beat at certain moments, to hopefully keep the viewer a bit off-balance, so that you'd expect a cut from my having set it up before, and then you're subconsciously thrown off when it doesn't come. That was the intent, anyway.

I'm really fond of the various motion and zoom blur effects, I think they turned out really nicely, except for that last one, which I could not get to look quite right. But the others, I think, are merged enough with the clips that they're creepy without being overly distracting. I still can't get de-interlacing to work right, either.

Not too much else to say, really. This was one of my favorite songs to cut because it was really easy to do, what with that distinctive beat and all. I'm happy with the vidlet, too. And for those of you who don't know, Justin and Iris are brother and sister. Yeah. Welcome to the otp of wrongess! :)

What I Learned
This vid was all about the blur. I used Motion Blur, on the Motion tab, for the clips that had internal movement, set to 16 samples and 727% blur. I used a Wind Blur filter to blur clips that didn't have a lot of motion, changing the direction, radius, and steps. The clip of Justin at :26 has a keyframed fisheye filter with radius 200 and amount from -5 to 5. Oh, and I sped both the first and last clips up by 1000%!

Thanks to everyone who commented along the way; even just knowing you watched the vids gave me a boost. There will be a big conclusion post, um, later. Heh.
