IJVP - Day 11!

Jan 19, 2006 19:56

Today's vidlet was suggested by agent_rouka, it's a Firefly vid to Robbie Williams' "Something Stupid." (In which he is duetting with Nicole Kidman.)

For those of you who are just here for the vids - please right-click and 'Save Target As.' The file is DivX AVI.

Something Stupid (18 MB)

Please let me know if you're unable to play the vidlet.

Lyrics
I know I stand in line
until you think you have the time
to spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance
I know that there's a chance
you won't be leaving with me

Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
and have a drink or two
and then I go and spoil it all
by saying something stupid
like I love you

My Thoughts; What Works; What Doesn't
Well. There's some interesting forces at work behind this vidlet, and I have to apologize to agent_rouka for not making it snarky as she asked. I had a good idea for snark at first, and then I found myself laying clips in all seriousness, being literal, and topping it all off with a heart transition at the end (I figured I might as well go all in at that point). I honestly don't know where this came from, because theirs is not really a sweet love story, but there you go. My inner 13-year old girl needed to be let out after yesterday's vidlet, I guess. The other force behind today's vidlet is the fact that I only had a strictly limited time to vid for various reasons, and so I needed something that was relatively quick to put out there, and taking the song literally helped that. I might go back and re-do this one as more snarktastic once IJVP is over.

All that being said, I think it's a cute vidlet as it is. You know me, I love the schmoop.

If I'd had more time, I would have paid more attention to the coloring of the clips, I think that's the main thing that doesn't really work. I did tone down the flashback clips to a bluer color, which helps, and the show tends to have a fairly limited color scheme anyway, but I think it would have looked a lot more cohesive with focus on coloring. I love the guys dancing on "someplace to dance." I like how it looks like they're dancing in the cuts from the flashback scene near the beginning. It's like a vid dessert.

What I Learned
I used RGB Balance on the flashback clips, with the green pulled down and the blue pulled up and the red pulled down a bit to keep it from being too purple. I used a QuickTime Iris transition set to Heart for the heart transition. That's pretty much it this time.
