Hi team, how're we doing? We're over halfway done with my version of IJVP, so just hang in there. :) Today's vidlet was suggested by
_par_avion, it's a Battlestar Galactica vid to Cheryl Wheeler's "Orbiting Jupiter."
For those of you who are just here for the vids - please right-click and 'Save Target As.' The file is DivX AVI.

After reading your comments I can understand where you're coming from by describing this as sounding like the exterior shots from the show. But. I actually found the sound of the song very intimate. It's got a very clear sound and it does work nicely with extended external movement, but by choosing to focus on the rise and fall of such a close relationship I think you've taken it to another level.
With all of the lyrics referring to outer space, I think too many shots of exactly that, even with ships, would have left it feeling a bit empty compared to what you wove together. You've transcended the simple humanity of these characters and set them up in the stars with this interpretation. Which I absolutely loved. Every line becomes an incredibly rich metaphor, and they just set my brain buzzing away with all of the possible implications.
Favorites:
--Love how it opens. I actually liked every one of the mirror effects, including the first. They amplify the movement in the clips and I think that worked really well. And usually I really don't care for effects that are that dramatic--especially in a vid as delicate as this. I think it might be that you used the moon shots, and they have a distinct warm color as well that just works for me with the effect and the contrast that already provides.
--"Gazing through the asteroid belt" - for that scene between the two of them. Her with her secret, both of them in that room with so many emotional asteroids waiting out there to crash into them. Perfect.
--"seeing with my own eyes the cosmic ballet" - Transitioning from her first meeting him and him so sympathetic, to him finally learning the truth and everything falling apart. Very much a ballet of cosmic proportions, at least for two humans with one horrible loss.
--The other two mirror shots. Love the bobbing face, and I actually really like how she vanishes from the frame in the third mirror. She's listening, but no one's talking to her. She's all alone, and that's sinking in, but she isn't finished.
--And then *bam*, Raider, Starbuck perseveres! And comes home a little stronger, and then dissolves under something as gentle as Adama's forgiveness. Back in his orbit. For the time being.
I loved it.
