Deathly Hallows Predictions

Jul 15, 2007 10:42

Yeah, I'm writing this down now so I will be able to gloat when I'm right and laugh when I'm wrong. It's subject to change until I actually read the book. This will be a very long post, and it will be only Harry Potter predictions, so if you're not interested there's no point in reading any further.

- We will see more of the two way mirror. Either it will do strange things now that it's broken or it'll be fixed. Perhaps we'll have a way to glimpse what's beyond the veil through the mirror. This is possibly the world of death, if there is such a thing. It will play a part though.

- I have a theory that the reason Ollivander was abducted was for Voldemort to acquire Ravenclaw's wand, which we may have glimpsed in the front window. If this is the case however, it would suggest that Harry's death was not going to result in the making of Voldemort's final Horcrux. So this one's up in the air.

- Snape is in it for himself, although like Lady Lupin has said in her Spinner's End editorials (shut up), anyone who has the survival skills Snape has and whose primary goal is survival, as I believe Snape's goal is and always has been, will be inconsistent. I think Snape had a soft spot for Lily, and his hatred for James and his bitterness towards Dumbledore all affect his actions. So he may not always act like he is in it for himself. His feelings (I'm not saying love here, just respect) for Lily and contempt for his fellow Death Eaters will make him seem on Dumbledore's side, while his loathing of James and Harry will drive him towards Voldemort.

- The Horcrxes:
1. The Diary
2. The Ring (Slytherin)
3. The Locket
4. Hufflepuff's Cup (Hufflepuff)
5. Nagini (?)
6. Ravenclaw's Wand (?) (Ravenclaw)

I don't know if the locket is still a Horcrux. I don't know how successful R.A.B. (who is Regulus Black) was in his attempts to destroy it. The fact that it ended up at the Grimmauld Place suggests that Kreacher was along with him, which is encouraging, because he may have had help. This also looks promising because I doubt that Kreacher would register in the boat as a wizard. I don't know if Regulus is dead or alive, therfore I'm not completely convinced he is dead.

I also would like to know which object he wanted to use as Harry's Horcrux. It wasn't the diary, locket, ring, or Ravenclaw's wand. It could be Hufflepuff's cup or Nagini. I don't think it was the cup because Voldemort acquired that fairly early on, so it was probably one of the earlier Horcruxes. This leaves me with Nagini, which while it doesn't make sense is oddly fitting, because Harry has a connection with snakes and it suggests that Nagini was intended to become a Horcrux but never actually did become one. However, it also doesn't make sense because it raises questions: Why did Voldemort need Nagini's venom to survive during Goblet of Fire before he returned if Nagini wasn't his Horcrux? And has Voldemort since made Nagini into a Horcrux?

Harry is NOT A HORCRUX. Voldemort a) would never intend to intrust a piece of his soul in his possibly mortal enemy and b) did not have a chance to make the spell before the the AK backfired. And also, Harry's scar connects him to Voldemort, but he would not be able to use Occlumency against Voldemort or vice versa if he was a Horcrux, because nothing would be able to sever the bond between two pieces of the same soul. Another thing: is it possible to have two souls in one body, and if it is possible, wouldn't it have really fucked Harry up?

- Hogwarts will reopen, although I'm not sure if the trio will return as students. They will return however in search of documents, objects, or advice and information from the portraits, people or ghosts. They may also want to use some of Hogwarts's quirks, such as the Room of Requirement, the Forbidden Forest or the Vanishing Cabinets. Lastly, they may want to use the passageways to get into Hogsmeade undetected. McGonagall will be Headmistress, and she will not be head of the Order. Not only will she have her hands full with the running of the school, but she is not the natural leader of the Order. She does not see the big picture.

- Honestly, I don't know who will run the Order, because the only natural leader there is Dumbledore. Lupin seems like a viable candidate, but as a werewolf it wouldn't work because he needs to be with other werewolfs and the prejudices people feel towards him will get in the way. Moody is way too paranoid, Arthur needs his job at the Ministry. Perhaps Kingsley Shacklebolt?

- Bellatrix is so dead, as well as Voldemort. Draco would be lucky to excape alive, as would Snape, who has incredible survival skills but many, many enemies and no allies. I'm on the fence about whether or not Ron will die. Harry will live, but he probably won't want to be alive by the time this is over. I think Ginny will probably die, she is too close to Harry and her character has been developed so carefully that I know she will have an important part to play. Add that to her closeness to Harry and I think she is doomed. Hagrid will also die protecting someone, maybe Harry?

- I won't be surprised if Bill and Fleur's wedding is crashed by Death Eaters. However, it will be early on in the book, so I'm not sure it will happen.

- Harry will learn vital information from Petunia upon his return to Privet Drive. He will learn more about her relationship with her sister, his parents, Dumbledore and his correspondance with Petunia, and why Petunia knows so much about magic and has been hiding it all these years. Perhaps Petunia is a Muggleborn?

- Sirius and Dumbledore are both dead, and neither of them will be absent from the seventh book. Sirius through the mirror and Dumbledore through a Penseive or protrait. We will learn a lot about both, as well.

- Pettigrew was present at Godric's Hollow on the night of the Potters' deaths.

- Burning Questions:
1. Why did James give Dumbledore his Invisibility Cloak when he must've needed it when he was in hiding? Did he give Dumbledore something top secret that had to be kept invisible?

2. Why did Dumbledore trust Snape?

3. Will Percy ever redeem himself? What about Mundungus? Pettigrew?

4. Does Pettigrew actually owe Harry a life debt? If so, how will he repay it?

5. Why was Dumbledore's symbol a Phoenix? And what was with the tomb?

6. What part will Aberforth play? Does he have information from his bartending years or from his connection to Dumbledore? Does he have one of the Horcruxes (the locket perhaps)?

7. What became of Regulus after he wrote that note to the Dark Lord?

8. Who will manage magic late in life?
