January 25, 2023 Obviously, the nomination received widespread backlash. The Razzies ultimately apologized and removed the nomination. The Razzies will adopt "New voting guidelines that will preclude any performer or filmmaker under 18 from being considered for a Razzie."
John Wilson, head of the group that organizes the Golden Raspberry Awards. “Sometimes, you do things without thinking,” Wilson said. “Then you are called out for it. Then you get it. It’s why the Razzies were created in the first place.”
Wilson added the backlash “brought our attention to how insensitive we’ve been in this instance. As a result, we have removed Armstrong’s name from the final ballot that our members will cast next month. We also believe a public apology is owed Ms. Armstrong, and wish to say we regret any hurt she experienced as a result of our choices.”
This isn't the first time The Razzies nominated children. Jake Lloyd was nominated for his role in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and Macaulay Culkin, who was nominated three times for Getting Even With Dad, The Pagemaster and Richie Rich in 1995.
Ryan Kiera Armstrong Has appeared in Black Widow, Wildflower, and most recently The Old Way alongside Nicolas Cage.
Last year Armstrong made an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote Firestarter. Barrymore was the original Charlie in the 1984 adaptation of Stephen King's Firestarter novel.
