Holy fucking SHIT that was good!
Woke up, shower, dressed, out the door.
Got to Waterloo at around 3, had a couple of pints and met up with Hanna, Ally and Ben. More drinks. Ben left his key in his door, so he's got to go back and try and get it. Shiiit.
Me, Hanna and Ally make our way up to Wembley Arena, and get in line to get in. We see Tibbs and Rubz, but they blank us horribly. No big deal.
We get in, and holy shit it's amazing. Ignoring the cloak room, because TestamenT's started. Hooooly shit! we batter our way up as close to the front as we can get. I'm within spitting distance of my heroes. Wow. I'm absolutely in AWE of these guys as they bash through some of my alltime favorite songs. They do it with such ease and showmanship, and I'm simply melting into a puddle in the middle of the pit. We've unfortunately missed the first 2 songs of the set, but it didn't matter.
I thought TestAmenT was actually the best band of the night! Such power, command of the stage and command of the audience! Chuck Bily dominated the crowd, while they all obliterated us aurally.
TestAmenT's setlist - to the closest of my recollection
- The Preacher (I think? couldn't hear, was still waiting outside!)
- Disciples of the Watch (I think - still waiting to get in)
- The New Order
- Souls of Black
- More than Meets the Eye
- D.N.R.
- 3 Days of Darkness
- Practice What You Preach
- The Formation of Damnation
That's all I can remember. There was a HUGE wall-of-death for the breakdown of TFOD, Chuck Billy orchestrating the whole thing. Mashup of epic proportions!
After TestAmenT leave the stage, we're all wanting more. If only it were Megadeth opening, and not these guys. Though Megadeth didn't dissapoint either.
We put our stuff in the cloakroom and manage to get in after Megadeth start, and I have to say, while he's still very much a good frontman, you can tell Dave's heart wasn't too into it. He wasn't angry at anything - nothing he sang had venom or bite, but only the empty promises of it.
Setlist (Closest of my recollection)
- Sleepwalker (Clock Room waiting)
- Wake Up Dead (cloak room, still...)
- Take No Prisoners (making our way in)
- A Tout Le Monde
- Washington Is Next
- She-Wolf
- In My Darkest Hour
- Symphony of Destruction
- Skin O' My Teeth
- Hangar 18
- Peace Sells
- Holy Wars
The people at the cloakroom really pissed me off. They kept trying to shuffle us as close to the wall as possible to get us out of the way (of nothing, I might add) and didn't pay any attention to people pushing in line. And then the girl in the cloakroom was doing eveything so SLOWLY! It shouldn't take 5 minutes per customer if you're just taking a pound, taking a jacket, handing out a ticket and hanging it up. Laughable.
But anyways - back to my "review" - Megadeth was awesome, but I feel they had the weakest performance of the night. Dave wasn't angry at anything, though played his heart out. You could tell he was just going through the motions, but he was happy to be there. James LoMenzo has the biggest stage presence, surprisingly - Obviously, Mustaine had to stand behind the mic alot of the time, yeah. Chris Borderick was just kind of sailing through it with a very snooty look on his face the whole time. He wasn't into it, I don't think.
And so we went, had more drinks.
Judas Priest was SIIIIIICK!
Setlist:
- Prophecy
- Metal Gods
- Eat Me Alive
- Between The Hammer And The Anvil
- Devil's Child
- Breaking The Law
- Hell Patrol
- Death
- Dissident Aggressor
- Angel

I lost my voice somewhere around Electric Eye. I was too far back for this, but I enjoyed just listening and being able to see - I was quite squished with Megadeth - So I just stood, headbanged, sang, screamed, went crazy. It was awesome. I thought Priest were amazing and there's a reason they were among the cream of the metal crop. The only thing that bugged me was when Halford went with the motions with "crowd-interaction" - saying "yeah" in various ways and getting the crowd to follow you. It was alright for a minute, but he dragged it out, I think. They were solid as, but I got the feeling the drummer was getting bored alot of the time - with the amount of times he threw his sticks up in the air, or twirled them, or something.
I half expected the drumming for the "Nostradamus" tracks to be very intense but instead they were very atmospheric. I liked it, but I kind of expected the drummer to come out with something a bit more - he seems to be happy to do quite an easy job and get paid for it, instead of pushing himself.
He more than made up for it with Painkiller, however. Goddamn. That should've been the finisher, in my opinion. It's good they did Hell Bent, Green Manalishi and another thing comin, but I thought Painkiller would've been a suitably upbeat finish.
Afterwards, we piled out, got some grease from a local chicken shack, and went hunting for an open pub. We didn't find any, so we all went our seperate ways.
I got a TestAmenT shirt from the Merch stand (Would've got 2, but they were out of anything but XXL on pretty much all the other shirts!) And a Megadeth one, too. Awesome.
I slepts happy, with my ears ringing and my neck sore. What better way, to finish an amazingly metal day.
