Question, how do you move from one city to another? Like, I mean, all your books and personal things (well, maybe you've got a tv and a blender and stuff like that), do you hire a company to move them from one city to the next and just kind of wait for them on the other end? I really have no idea ( Read more... )

The movers were a bit expensive that is for sure but I had a lot of stuff (I don't recall the amount but I'm thinking around $3K including packing supplies, tip and my own travel expenses). My movers charged by weight and I had a lot of books.

But if a company wants Seth, they may actually pay his moving expenses. I know a couple of people who were moved that way. It's an incentive to take the job. The company just makes the initial arrangements including payment and the individual makes the scheduling arrangements. Or, they can give him the $$. It is probably easier for the company to pay for it themselves instead of reimbursing.

Seth can ask them to pay for his expenses if he takes the job if it is not offered. My feeling - if you really want someone to move cross country for a job, you should offer to pay for it. It makes the offer more appealing (but moving closer to Ryan would be a great incentive to me!).

Oh and if someone else is paying, then Seth should totally have the movers pack his stuff instead of doing it himself.

In terms of the delivery, the movers give a time frame so you're never completely sure when you will get your stuff until the last minute. Or your stuff may sit in a storage place until another truck is scheduled to be in your area and can pick it up.

My stuff stayed on one truck from start to finish and I got my stuff three days after I arrived at my apartment in Austin. When my mom moved, they transferred trucks and her stuff got stuck in storage for a couple of weeks.

Also, you can ship a car in a moving truck!

That totally, totally works.

So, I could have Seth send his things through a movers, but put them in storage somewhere, and he can maybe then unpack them from storage, then forcing Ryan to help him unpack? That's great.

Well, what if Seth really wanted to find a job in Berkeley and called in a few favors to get that job? I'm assuming if the job was open anyway, they could give him at least a percentaje of the moving incentive, right? Hmm. That works.

Thanks so much darling!

The movers generally have storage places so that's not a problem. Or they can actually storage his stuff at a place he rents himself so it totally works. Not only that, if Seth needs something from storage (before he finds an apartment), he can make Ryan help him find it but unpacking part of the storage and the boxes and then repacking everything.

Here's an idea, what if there was a company in Berkley that has wanted him but he didn't want to move there at the time. He can call them to see if they are still interested and that's how he gets the job plus the move costs since they really want him.

Can't wait to read your new one!
