You don't need to go to graduate school to have a happy and productive life. You don't need to go to graduate school to have a happy and productive life.
You don't need to go to graduate school to have a happy and productive life.

Oh wait, that's what I keep telling myself.

But it's true!

However, a friend of mine's bf has a BA in English and can't get a job (I mean, he also is the living embodiment of the the drug-free PSAs where the voice over says "Smoke pot. Nothing will happen to you either." - Cuz all he does is sit on his ass and play video games all day.) And a lot of editing jobs are being outsourced to India now.

Further, Ivy League graduate schools aren't necessarily better than public ones. Just like you can focus on specific kinds of engineering, Seth might focus on literary criticism, fiction writing, period specific literature... Then, different grad schools will be better than other grad programs depending on what he wants. (For instance, when I wanted a PhD in psychology, Harvard was a terrible choice for me because they didn't have faculty focusing on adolescents, health risk taking behaviors, and quant methods (within psych). University of North Carolina at one of the smaller campuses would have been a better choice. Portland State University would have been a better choice. Because UNC-wherever and PSU had people in the social psych programs, with lots of classes in quant methods, and a strong tie in with public health.)

I think you just confused me a little bit more. *g*

It's okay. I'm thinking of having him go to grad school either way, just either on the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State university. *shrugs* I think I want that mostly because it'll be another thing that Ryan and SEth can fight about. What's the point of giving them AN EASY LIFE. *g*

I think it also depends on the career. Meaning, for us (Civil engineers) a grad school isn't mandatory. You can do fine just being an Engineer. But for Chemestry, a friend of mine once told me that unless she gets her PhD, she might as well just work for a drugstore. *shrugs* I think I still need more info.
