speaking of spoilers...

It got me to thinking last night, when I read someone say they didn't like the new season spoilers because it "ruined the family aspect" of the show. (I assume she didn't mean families watching the show, but the long-standing family dynamic on the show.)

Yes, adding a romantic storyline would...well, do just that. I doubt it would take anything away--besides some time, which I will only miss if the story sucks out loud (not in the fun way, I mean), which I doubt it would.

It made me think of the wonderful, amazing book Watership Down. See, family won't last long when all you have are bucks. They went through hell for does, just so the family could continue at all. It's basic nature.
I just mean that dating relationships and family aren't mutually exclusive. Not that I want Sam or Dean to start spawning (at least until season four), but I don't think it would be so unnatural for the show to be sometimes having of a chick and the 'shipping that could go along with one.

As I've said, it's all in how they do it.

And, you know, having Dean in a kinda long-term (for this show anyhoo) 'ship could have its stories.
Perhaps some exploration, using the Asylum-style contrivance, of the golden rule of sibling-hood (and friendship for that matter). Ya know, "Thu shalt not know thy brother's mate in the Biblical sense, the Hershey (kisses!) sense, or anything beyond a leer (which may cause punching anyway)."

Now, you could say that's been way overdone; you'd be right. I know that all art is seen through and compared to all that came before in the mind of the viewer, but I try to think of what can work on the show I'm watching here and now. After all, everyone knows a cliche can be enjoyed when executed well. And, heh, original ideas are only as good as their execution.

Great, now I wanna get a black mask, grab my ax, and go after all really sucky writers. *shakes head clear*--ooh, look at my floppy hair flop!

As I was saying. I'm not interested in watching a show with an overly bitter, cynical mind. If I get that bad, I'll have to take that ax to my tv. It is after all fun, right? But I know sometimes fun shows get fucked up by their own people, and everybody fears that. It's not all fluffy flowers and smelling the puppies.

But the longer I go without reading new spoilers, the more zen I feel. Or maybe I'm in a good mood today. Who knows. Thars a storm a'comin' in, time to batten down the computer. Much love and hugs to my flist.

[...wonderful, amazing book Watership Down...] It is an awesome book, really. Angst, wonderful characters, and bunnies. Not that you have to like bunnies to read it, but it should be read.
