How Bad Is It?
After getting told last spring that, along with all other first-year teachers in Nacogdoches, his contract would not be renewed, my oldest stepson Ben has been looking for work.
And looking. And looking some more.
Best he's been able to do is part-time at Wal*Mart for $7.90 an hour.
So now it looks like he's going to enlist in the U.S. Navy. Because at least the military is hiring.
Now I'm in no way denigrating military service. I think Ben will make a great sailor and I'm proud he'll be serving his country. And he picked a branch of the service that, given the current geopolitical situation, gives him the best chance of not getting shot at or blowed up.
But still, it says something that the best a 23-year-old college graduate with professional experience can do is Wal*Mart. Sigh.
