And less of pretty much everything else. At the end of my second week of floor work, I'm back to where I was at the end of the season last year on the twin metrics of speed and accuracy, so that's good.
But I've run the numbers, and my monthly nut -- the bills I have to pay every month -- runs a little higher than my take-home. Not much, a couple hundred tops. So while this job is a whole lot better than unemployment, it's not getting the job done as a long-term solution.
So I've got to step up the work search. One of the new hires I just finished training came up to me this week to say goodbye -- seems she got a call out of the blue about a job she had interviewed for like three months ago, and was ditching Plan B (the IRS) toot sweet. Can't say I blame her.
And then there's overtime. For the next 6 to 10 weeks, the IRS is offering staggering amounts of overtime for qualified employees (like me, fortunately). I mean, in addition to my regular 40 hours next week, I could work up to 34 OT hours, at time-and-a-half. Extremely tempting. The question is, how much of that extra time can I actually do without keeling over or going crazy?
Guess we'll find out. So that means less free time for stuff like this. I'll still check in when I can, but if you don't hear from me for a while, that's why.
