The Baseball Project

Here's my first music recommendation since restarting the blog:

The Baseball Project is a group of well-pedigreed indie rock types (including R.E.M.'s Peter Buck) who happen to love -- and write great songs about -- baseball. They've done songs about the famous and the obscure, from Pete Rose, Fernando Valenzuela, Ted Williams, and Jackie Robingson, to Ed Delahanty, Curt Flood, Ryne Duren, and Mark Fidrych.

Their first album, Vol. 1: Frozen Ropes and Line Drives, came out a couple years ago. Last year during the baseball season, they contributed monthly songs commenting on current baseball events to ESPN.com and available for free.

They just released their second album, Vol. 2: High and Inside, and it's currently on near-constant play: on the computer at the office, the iPod at work, and the CD in the car. Highly recommended to all music and baseball fans. If you want to check them out before committing your hard-earned samoleons, the record label website (link above) has several tunes for free download (registration may be required).
