Contrary to my belief, I did not make a placeholder for an entry about the trip to Seattle. Now I will have to live with placing the dates of travel in my entry. Gross.
The day after "London foiled a terrorist plot" that concerned carrying disguised liquids aboard, Todd and I strategically packed our luggage and carry-ons so as not to delay security checks and headed for Seattle. Security precautions to let us head to the gate would have been a breeze...had I remembered that I had a deactivated (it doesn't work until you connect it to the dispenser) aerosol air freshener in what I will call my feminine necessities kit. I was one embarrassed ditz. Though the scary aerosol object had been removed, I had the opportunity to be embarrassed yet again when they searched our carry-ons to allow our early boarding for the exit seats.
The trip was comfortable for me, except for the strong desire to drink water, apply lipgloss, and apply re-wetting drops. I read, slept, and learned a few interesting bits of information during some dull conversations with the woman in the window seat. At least imy need to talk was satiated without bothering Todd very often.
We had a lovely lunch/supper at a local restaurant in Lynnwood which cost us less because of the three hour time difference. :p Let me just state now that traveling west is always a good idea. You can sleep in and still get up on time or even early! Well, I guess it's not good if you want to explore the nightlife. I'm an old married woman, so I don't care so much about that.
Saturday consisted of lots of meandering (I say this as though it was easy, but it was quite a task) through the Pike Place Market crowd and some browsing of the stores in Pioneer Square. We had a slight desire to see the Underground Tour, but the last two tours of the day were sold out. No biggie. We enjoyed the used bookstores, and I enjoyed finding a toy shop that sold a number of Breyer horses--a favorite of mine for collecting in my earlier youth. I still need to see if Breyer still sells any of the horses I have...
Anyway. Highlights of our Market (and surrounding area) experience include purchases of a beautiful $5 bouquet, some grilling boards of various woods for Papa G, Munchkin Bites, and currently unnamed items (some of which will be/have been given as gifts) from Black Creek Botanicals; much poster reading; seeing crab legs with a diameter of about four inches; and tasting coated hazelnuts. I made up a game in which I tried to guess the color scheme and bouquet texture of women walking by before I actually saw the bouquets. I think it may be a talent I could develop. We perused an art gallery and ate at Etta's. I can't recall what Todd had, but it involved shredded crab meat and eggs, and I mistook polenta for polenta bread while reading the menu and got a surprising, but good, dish. A mimosa was shared, and a quite flaming conversation was overheard. We later ran across the same man, and I overheard him saying," Yeth. I alwayth thought thothe were the betht pair of thneakerth in my clothet, too!" I'm sorry, but it's still funny to me. Thweet Peath!!!
Okay, I'm tired of writing this entry, so I'll add to it later.
