Just finished the movie. I must admit, It was good. Very few sci-fi movies anymore really are good but this one surprised me.
Yes it was a Frankenstein monster theme. Ceaser really went out of his way to stop from actually killing humans, although a few was, I can't denine that. But ultimately it looked like all they wanted was to be away from humans for a time.
But the ending was sad to see too. But it was inevitable it seems.
The movie really made a contrast between the human and ape minds. But it also showed quite a parallel too. Humans can be brutal, sadistic. But then, the apes wasn't show to be gods either. They had their assholes, as well as good too. I can see why Ceaser was a great leader. He generally cared for his apes, even the brute Rocket. All Ceaser wanted ultimately was to lead his people to a promised land, and I have to respect that.
Also it showed that Ceaser wasn't fully hateful. He could have killed his 'father' at the end easily. Also his reaction to his 'grandfather' (John Lithgold) when that idiot neighbor started attacking him was understandable. I too would have beat the tar out of the jerk if I was in the same circumstances (although bit off his finger - no.
I know this is the rebooted Planet of the apes from the 68 book. But if I was writing this, I would have liked to seen a true Planet of the apes in which humanity and apes had to co-exist, what would that have been like?
Maybe something I can think of over time :)
