Web comic?

A month or so ago, on a muck far, far away...

No, it wasn't that one with a short emperor, or a talkative donkey.

Another one :)

Anyway, we was having a discussion, and someone asked my character if they're in a web comic. While I said no, that got me thinking. Could I bring about a web comic? I'm a big fan of about 30 comics - which I read every day much to my yawn, and thought - Maybe I could.

So far, there's just vague ideas on how to do this. I've got a writer lined up. Oh, per my policies, I won't say who or what incase they do not wish to be known. But this writer is a great writer, lets put it there :).

Artists: Well I have a short list, and the very first one that came to mind that very day on the MU* has just written.

They said that they're interested, but due to back surgeries they may be delayed at least a year. OUCH!!!

So I'm going to put them in reserve. From what I know of cartooning, I one strip cannot keep a writer and artist indefinately, unless said creator is also the writer, and artist. Which I'm not capiable. :\ Hence this first one will asked again if/when I'm able.

Pity too, this artist is top notch.

Anyway, the very basic idea for the comic is a hard sci-fi comic strip that is based around my TerraFUR framework. Hard sci-fi I finally found out, is:

Hard science fiction is a category of science fiction characterized by an emphasis on scientific or technical detail, or on scientific accuracy, or on both.

"Hard science fiction." Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., 15 July 2011. Web. .

Yes, it'll have my zomorph species in it, but it's not based upon JUST that, but the story. The idea is something like Brin's Uplift universe. The zomorphs are characters; people in the story, like humans and any possible extraterrestrials.

The other ideas is that we run ads on the web page, and the profits from them, are split 45/45 between the artist and writer. I of course get 10% since I'm basing this upon the amount of work.

If we do enough strips, I understand you can get it compiled into a book. Then the profit split is the same 10/45/45.

Also I'm honest. I'll be totally transparent with both, so they'll get the raw data from the profits, clicks, etc.

Lastly, the basic idea is for the writer and artist to do some of the work way ahead of time. Months is best. That way if an emergency comes along, or they have to leave or (heaven forbid) have to leave for good, the reader isn't just cut off for months or even years. (Which I found incredibly aggravating on some strips.)

Anyway, I've got others to ask. My basic criteria is:
  • Must be able to draw furs and humans realistically. Also different types (That sadly eliminates one person I know - he seems to only have been able to draw his own creations well. :\
  • Be able to do a basic comic strip; Line and ink with backgrounds basically. If they want to colorize it, that's their prerogative
  • I'm not against manga per-say. One of my all-time favorite comic stories was manga; 2001 Nights. There you can read it online. But notice how this was done. Not cartoonist in anyway, or the 'big eyes' thing. So I'll entertain a manga artist.
  • I may contact a few other artists for reserve. A couple I know is already doing a strip, and may not be interested in doing yet another.
Now I have only at most 5 artists who I'll ask, now that the one has been put on reserve. I'm now asking you, If you know of anyone who may be interested, I'd love to know. Have them contact me at shadwalk@gmail.com. .

Oh and feel free  to let them see this journal as well.
