Puppies have an effect on me.

Just got done from another appraisal job. And for the last hour/90, been depressed by it.

Why?

Well did this little rental home, and behind the house, was this adorable Jack Russel terrier pup. She was just happy to see me, and wanting to be petted, and such. Which I diligently did!

But what depressed me, was that she had only a 2' long leash, a water dish, and barely any room to move. Her "pile" was only a few feet from her as well.

Coming home, my super said I was awfully quiet. Then I finally admit, that I was bothered by the puppy on the leash. We discussed this a bit, then dropped the subject.

But now, after reviewing it in my mind all this time, I think I saw several things.

#1 Was the puppy there ALL the time?
#2 Where was her food dish?
#3 she was very well adjusted, very sweet, slightly submissive (probably her age)

Just before I started typing this up, something hit me.

Because of the things above, it's likely that I was over-thinking this. She was probably just tied out there temporary because we was to be there, and she's not out there all the time. There was no food dish, she was very sweet, indicating she was well taken care of, and even socialized. Also the people sounded like good people. The kids was polite, the mother was fine and didn't' sound like an abuser.

It's just I have a problem with dogs being tied up away from the 'pack' for weeks/years etc at a time. Only having a small area to even walk, much less do things in.

Ug...

What I should have done was to remind the folks that she "did her business" and making sure the water dish was filled. Then they'd say something like 'we'll bring her in, she's out there only for a few minutes, etc.'

I sometimes do these things to myself :)
