At long last I think I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
As long-time readers know. Due to the bottleneck of 01 - 04 I got major behind on many projects. Most all was half-baked, some even in the mixing stages (ok, so I've been working on my cheesecake tonite :) Because of the bottleneck, and time constraints due to increasing more work on money paying jobs, and starting life anew in a new town I got really, really behind. But after 2 years of steady work I'm starting to finally see the end of them.
There is a ways to go, but now no more is being scheduled. That's the biggest turning point I saw. it seemed that for every one thing I was about to finish, 3 more was put in my 'in' box.
So here's my things to finish before the end of the year.
a) Get into linux finally. This was one thing I am sure about now. Debian was the turning point on this for me. Once I discovered how stable and bug free debian was I suspected I'll finally make it. (and believe me. I'm STILL kicking myself for not trying it sooner. I mistook it for BSD which is not for the faint hearted.). Now I read that because Debian is so well supported, that chances are unless it's really an obscure piece of software, you can easily install it with apt-get. The one thing that was holding me back - program installing. I just ordered v4 of Debian 'Etch' on DVDs. I'll put it on the laptop, set up the duel booting, so Debian starts by default, and strip the Windows partition to just a few utility programs (The laplink cable only works in Windows so far, so I'll need someway of transferring files) but with Windows stripped down to the bare essentials, I'll HAVE to use debian for everything.
b) The storage server: Although I talked about this before, one thing I've been working on until I get the money for it, is cleaning up and backing up the files. I'm 95% done! This was added very recently. One of my '3 in the in box' things :)
c) Businesses: Lately, Second Life's Virtual Reality Realty (With my partner Kantuck Anu) is starting to work. I've made nearly $25,000L last week selling my land. That translates roughly to $83US. I spent most of that buying land and building a home for myself finally. But that's bought land, not rented. So that's a one-time investment. My next goal of SL? Making $100US net. Then after that? $1,000US net. When? That's a tough question.
d) I'm working on opening an ebay store. My mother, I, and a cousin who's experienced on selling on ebay has been in discussions. We've about settled on a name, I'm going to probably sell diabetes strips, and strongly considering selling a good brand of CD/DVD blanks. I tried to find 8g DVDs and the only one selling them, had some odd-ball brand I never heard of. So I think this may be a good seller. But what I ultimately sell is another matter. I don't know yet.
e) Finally get my real-estate appraiser, and sales-persons license. The appraiser's license has a new twist. I've been afraid of this one until recently. I have heard that the Kentucky Real-Estate Appraiser's board has given the company in charge of writing this test, the heave-ho because the test was insainly difficult, and it had a 75% failure rate!
To get my real-estate sales-person's license, will require some 'catch-up' classes. I started nearly 10 years ago, and life went nuts about that time. Didn't finish. So I may even have to take all new classes. But I can do it.
f) For 10 years I've wanted to get us a free database client. OpenOffice finally got one out 'OpenBase' I haven't really sat and worked with it yet. But I know now how to activate it and it'll take a bit of re-learning to use it. From there, building useful databases is a snap. In the 80s, I was quite good at xBase. The programming language governing databases. Then I had a comic collection database program I wrote myself, the office had 'Listing Master' - a listing database system for real-estate offices. Then Windows came along, and dbase IV didn't go with it, so I lost it. I've just been waiting to get some of these projects off my tail, so I can actually sit and concentrate on OpenBase. Get the storage server done, linux started, and Ebay store started and I should be able to sit and do this.
g) Finally one thing I've been really wanting to learn for years; Networking. I'm going to abandon Windows and go purely into Linux for this. I think Windows is a lost cause; I won't use Vista and if ReactOS or at least virtually running Win2k works, I won't need Windows anymore. The final nail was nailed on Windows at Christmas. I got a Flight simulator that works as well, and probably better than even Flight Simulator 2004 - X-Plane, and it's cross platform.
So there it is. IF NOTHING ELSE is added to my 'in' box, that's my 07 goals. By the end of the year. all of those should be running (the businesses,) and done (the computer stuff)
Gods it'll be so nice to be able to sit down and draw when I want too, read a good comic, (which I plan to take some of my new money to buy back-issues of the Flash and the Disney ducks off E-bay :) and just enjoy life.
I'm going to do it!
