On a scale of Sargon-feel-good curve, today was a lot like yesterday. It started out kind of crapy. We went over to the USFS cabin to get stuff. I was carrying a GPR battery out of the cabin at 7am and I tried to stop the door from slamming, but as I turned around to grab the handle, my fingers just wouldn't fit in. So the door slammed and I felt terrible and Chuck was legitmately pissed at me. It got the morning of to a rocky beginning.
Nothing terribly wrong went on afterwards. I joined up with Scott and Danielle to GPS the hell out of the two lateral moraines of Pelican Canyon. The device was being uncooperative (at best). And I fell down several times as we bushwhacked down (note: bushwhacking DOWN something especially with sagebrush that pisses the hell out of me, is quite difficult. Both on and off the trail, I rather go UP than down. Seriously it sucks my ass), but morning/early PM was redeemed with the repeated sighting of a solitary moose!! Scott got some good shots of it on camera too. It was first abotu 200 ft. away or so, but it just so happened that (s)he was heading the same way we were. Danielle as especially excited (her, as well as my, first moose sighting). It was quite large but lost it easily in the forest of b rush, evergreens, and aspens. It sooned frighteningly reappeared no more than 50 ft. in front of us. We got quite close.
I'm so glad we saw a nice, healthy chocolate colored moose - with big ol' antlers! It sized us up a few times, and we definitely discussed evasion techniques, should there be a charge, but (s)he was docile and thought it better just to trot off. Still, a good day for that.
Afterwards, I went for a swim in the lake with some of the guys, then worked on a map plot for bottom samples of Fish Lake. Then I wrote more postcards and chilled listening to mp3s. Dinner tonight was hefty after Chuck, Danielle and Amber went to Richfield to get food. I had (almost) 2 burgers that left me feelign beyond full. I think everyone feels a little bloated tonight. Although my prevailing feeling is definitely fatigue. So I'll be going now.
G'night,
-S
