And the world keeps turning...

Last Sunday my great uncle died. We would have been celebrating his 103rd birthday next week. The thing is.. he didn't die of old age like one would expect for an old person.

He fell and hit his head and his roommate found him unconscious. The hospital kept him of life support for a bit, but due to the bleeding around his brain, they didn't know how much of him would be left if they had tried to save him. Life support was removed but even then he hung on for longer than expected after that. I guess that should have been expected from such a strong old man. He was always amazingly lively for an old guy. He was strongly religious, which you probably know isn't really my thing, but it gave him a purpose in life.

I got out of work early today and went to the funeral. His sister, my grandma was crying, very upset. We lost her younger brother last year. That side of my family has got through a lot of losses in recent years. Each one is hard on her and it always hits her the worst at the ceremonies.

I was never very close to him, but I still got choked up quite a bit at the ceremony and a little bit now. I guess we'll always wonder how long he would have lived if he hadn't injured himself. It's really too bad, because he seemed like he still had a few years left to him. If I was a religious person, I would say that such a sudden accident really was God deciding that he wanted to collect his loyal servant.

Family holidays wont be the same without him. There will definitely be something missing in our everyday life too as we would often go grocery shopping for him and then would stop by for a visit to drop things off. He will be missed.

I didn't really like the solemn music played during the funeral. When I die I want upbeat music played. Everyone that attends must wear a silly hat and I want my remains to be in one of these.

ps. Happy Pi Day
