so, my project for my Studies in Modern Theatre course requires me to write a journalistic review on a play of my choice. So being me, I decided to play the deep card, and talk about the play of life. I really liked it, tho its totally written in like 10 minutes HAHA. Ah well, so enjoy!!!
Art is a different kind of vision. An ability to see through the normal, the understood, and the well known. Art is an expression of the unknown blended with the known. Art is history, art is fantasy, art is passion, and most importantly, art is life. To see art is to question the real while not expecting an answer. Funny, how it works, yet as the life moves forwards, one has to step back and view the scenes of the whole production of life through an un-expectant gaze for clearly to view the theatre of life from an expectant gaze is not real at all, it is just an illusion of it basing itself on happy endings, scripted words, and a moral analysis based on some sort of conclusion. In the theatre of life, there is no script, no conclusions (that is until you close your eyes for good). The scene is constantly changing in a whirring mass of information, introducing a broad range of visual, audio, and intellectual stimulus from the mindless drivel of chatty schoolgirls about popular bands to the slow hum of some student’s laptop. Ah, dear reader, the characters. The hundreds, thousands, millions of characters come alive before you in a classic rendition of life-uncut. As the characters progress forward, you as the viewer become involved, and interact with all the characters. The plot develops as you, the viewer, grows older becoming involved with everything from you first birthday to the last day you breathe your final breath. It’s all encompassing, and moving as you, the viewer, live through troubling moments, joyous moments, moments that take you breath away, moments that leave you thinking and moments that should be repressed. The lighting is constantly changed from winter scenes, to summer scenes as a myriad of colours while the narrator stays the same. You, as the viewer, is invited to change the scenes as you wish, and the “actors” shall change with you as they are all perfectly blocked to play their own specific role. Some specific scenes is the UA main study hall where the chatty girls talk about their upcoming reading week while the group of students watch the blank computer screen intimately while their fingers search for letters on the keyboards in a race between human and machine. The main character as you, the viewer, are pulled into the scene as a thousand idea’s and things to do whiz by your thoughts as you race to class. Ah yes, the pinnacle of the scene is the dramatic viewpoint. Such as the scene where the main character, thats you, stands looking down in the UA study area wondering if everyone around you wears a mask to show an inner self. Representative of Brecht’s alienation technique, the mask represents a kind of facade, perhaps the viewer is left to feel a little unease at the lack of true emotion, or is the viewer, yourself, left with a sense of perplexity as to the emotional range of the characters in this scene? However, dear reader, what is this production called, I wonder? Perhaps the best title to call this particular piece is “Untitled”, due to its many faceted layers of intrigue, suspense, drama, comedy and many others yet failing as a whole to come to a complete sense of a conclusion. Ah you see dear reader, this in itself lies the beauty, the passion, and the art.
so holy long HAHA, ah well. This is scypher, wish you all to think outside the box, don' let man get you down, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE GIANTS WON THE SUPERBOWL, and wishing you all to have a sexified sexeriffic good day!!
