Legacies = fun. Got some fabulous interaction with both characters, including an unexpected friend/ally in an MT player's new character. It was good to get the angst out of my system as my stayr, and to have the good-natured drama I love with my elvish bard. Actually won best dramatic roleplay for the "Irish" tirade I had with another friend's character. It was beautiful!
Unfortunately there was miscommunication with the Mate. He thought I said I would be home "at noon", rather than "afternoon". Oi. That was an uncomfortable homecoming, just when I was bouncing through the door looking forward to cuddling my man after a weekend away. Le sigh. These things, they happen.
During the week I actually moved a few of those pebbles, huzzah!
Firstly, I finally made and kept an appointment with my investment specialist, and set up the account for the generosity my grandmother has once again laid at my feet for Christmas (to the tune of $12,000...!) That's getting invested, thank you, and I'm going to get a house out of it some day. I still need to send them the additional funds after my old account was transfered, but at least the deed is done, and things are in order for keeping my promise to my grandmother.
Secondly, I did one of those things... a doctor's appointment, specifically the eye doctor. Finally got my first real eye exam last Wednesday. The great news is that the only thing "wrong" is very very minor astygmatism, that does not effect my vision. I have perfect vision otherwise, and Dr. Hua (awesome tiny Asian lady) said she could see no evidence of complications because of my diabetes.
Thirdly, I finally, finally went in to have my blood drawn on Saturday. This is in preparation for seeing my diabetes specialist, as well as my physical with my primary physician. I feel somewhat ashamed in that the only reason I'm motivated is that my prescriptions are now out of refills... sigh... But! At least I'll be going, and at least I got up the guts to get stabbed and leeched. Hooray for blue-winged butterly needles. I don't care if they're the kind they use on babies, I AM a baby when it comes to this. I hate pain.
This weekend was so nice -- I had nothing I had to do. This would be the first time since a week before Christmas last year. Ye gods. Some minor complications:
My poor baby Ringo turned up with a big abscess on the side of his nose. I could feel his fever when I held him, and I had to cradle him on his back because he couldn't rest his head comfortably to sleep :( Took him to the (very expensive *groan*) Cats Exclusive vet that is literally at the end of our driveway. Turns out it's a tooth that's the root of the problem, and he needs dental surgery. He'll probably cost me a grand, ouch. Thanks be to whatever you worship that I have a decent job and had the presence of mind to set money aside when I could. He's on clavamox (antibiotics) and a painkiller now and is much more his old self, though still with a boxer's nose until after the surgery tomorrow. The Mate will have to drop him off, and I'll pick him up.
I switched shifts with my coworker tomorrow so I can get off early enough to meet my mother for her b-day dinner. Her b-day is actually the 31st, but everyone can get together tomorrow, so that's when it's happening. It's also the 2 year anniversary of losing my grandfather, so it will be good to spend some time with grandma that day, as well.
CANNOT WAIT FOR MORTAL TEARS!!! Good grief, it is not logical to be this stoked about a LARP. Then again, when was I a creature of logic? My werewolf character is turning out to be loads of fun, and much hilarity is planned and shall occur randomly as well. On that note, here's some pics of a pretty, pretty project that the Mate and I finished for another MT player. It's a boffer dagger scabbard for the Sept's klaive (if you know what the hell I'm talking about, you get geek cookies):
The ScabbardClose-Up of Glyphs (click image to enlarge)
Now, the only thing I can take credit for on this is designing/drawing the knotwork, and freehanding the glyphs from an example image. All the rest of the workmanship is the Mate's, and damn if he didn't do a fine job. I still need to finish a werewolf mask much like
this one, only pure black. Most of it is done, just need to do ears and fur hood. Also need to finish a necklace for
sqtristan's character to receive. Not happy with the materials I currently have for findings and stringing, so I might have to take it back after event to do it "properly", but it needs to be done this event to have proper impact.
Almost forgot! LAN party at the Geekery on Saturday was a blast! We had 8 people all on that one connection. Thank goodness I decided to bring our 4 slot router. The Mate, Coyne, and I all ended up playing our lowbies while the rest of the gang went instancing. Also ordered Chinese take-out (what a feast, $70+ worth!), so we had a Chinese Geek-Out that lasted well into the wee hours. Must! Do! Again!
With home life... we're trying to crack down on the house starting this week. The Mate would like the place presentable enough that we can have the landlord in to fix the dryer. I would really, really like a working dryer. But apparently, I don't want it badly enough, otherwise I would have been cleaning already.
Did a Costco run on Sunday. We try to split things fairly evenly, and this time, our receipts were $0.37 difference. Dayum, we're goooooooood. Among the things gotten were new crimson flanel sheets (mmmmmmmm....) and new pillows, finally! Now we just need to get that damn new mattress...
That's about all for now. Looking forward to getting home and cleaning, shockingly enough. Since we're both sick of the state of the house now, and the Mate has set a goal for both of us, maybe we'll actually get shite done!
Hope everyone's having a great time.
