Geeked Out Weekend

Aug 06, 2006 23:57

So, the Mate and I have just spent almost the entirety of our weekend being geeky.

Saturday, an utterly unprecidented event occurred -- THE PAGER RANG! The pager is an obnoxious little quarter pound of electronics that one of the three employees at my place of work has to carry from 9am to 2pm on Saturdays. I've had it 3 weeks in a row (voluntarily) because it never rings. Well, the Blue Angels were in town. The balcony was open. Lawyers were in the office to watch the show... and bother me.

I came in on a lovely Saturday afternoon to make two copies of under 50 pages, while the person who requested them watched the Angels.

...

...words fail me.

...

ANYWAY! After that stupidity (I think I spent more on parking and gas than I got paid for the half an hour I actually worked), called up Dave and Trish. BBQ? Yup! LAN party? Sure, why the hell not! The Mate and I packed up my computer, got eaty and barbequey bits, and headed to the Geekery.

We've been here the whole time since.

Swimming, cooking, WoWing with five other people. A "first time" for both of us. It's been a very fun, very lazy weekend.

Oh! One more geeky milestone. I finally actually had a character die in a tabletop! L5R got... interesting. I'm back from the dead (by an extremely lucky roll), but it was quite incredible to finally have a character well and truly bite it.

Made some wonderful progress on a new construction method mask for Mr. Coyne. It's going to be quite pretty, with the snarling and the gnashing of big teeth and the gorgeous silver fur and... and... *ahem* Very likely that I'll remake my Zara head with this technique, as it provides for better durability, longer life, comfort, and reduced complexity for custom fitting. And it's cheap! Not that papier mache isn't cheap, but this is cheap and not needing to worry about condensation damage.

Created character sheets for my RPG. I have a name for the campaign, and it is Lucidity. Getting very excited about running it, whenever that is, and finally got the background info packet out to most of my players. Gotten a couple people started on their modern and fantasy concepts, and I think just from the ease of working those together I'll do all right GMing. Am I too much of a geek in that I made the character sheet in spreadsheet format, and have a separate file with a player per worksheet tab...?

...what? It's neat and clean and organized and pretty! And I made it all myself!

Now, I must pack up the computer and head home. The cats are probably out of water, and very cranky, and I have to work tomorrow. Bleh. Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
