So I have this brand spaking new camera phone. What have I done with it? I've taken pictures so that I can illustrate my whining about the new decor at the Museum subway station stop. So I'll just get on with it then, shall I?

First, the decor before was perfectly all right. Okay, it wasn't brilliant or stunning or any number of other positive things, pastel yellow can only do so much of course. And they've even left some around. For contrast I suppose.

Okay, so that's not the greatest picture, but I really didn't want to catch anyone in the shot who didn't want to be there.

Anyway, it was what it was, and it was definitely very recognisable. And now the first thing you see when you get to the platform looks like this:

Now what you can't see in these, and I wasn't able to get a decent shot of, is what's actually on the orange of the lettering on the wall. You see, what they've done is cover all the yellow tile with those giant pastel maroon panels, leaving cutouts for the letters. Inside each letter, on the industrial orange background, is heiroglyphics in black. Then they put plexiglass over it. It looks ridiculous. From the right angle it looks like they're still waiting to put in the final lettering, instead of that being the final product.

And then there are the columns. I got some closeups of them because it just looks silly. They did the whole platform up museum-themed. So they have "Egyptian" piers, "Chinese" columns (the red ones on the middle photo above), "Mayan" piers, fluted "Greek/Roman" columns and "Totem pole" piers. Marching in pairs down the length of the platform, the whole thing manages to look like they raided three or four cheesy B-movie sets for the decor.

Just. Plain. Silly.

PS And yes, I now have ads on my LJ. Why? Because I'm too cheap to pay for the service but I want to be able to upload my own pictures.
