Commuting by the Rideau Canal creates a need to swerve around a variety of obstacles. Sometimes it is a gaggle of geese refusing to let anyone pass. Sometimes it is two separate set of college kids (one each at Carleton and University of Ottawa) painfully trying to be subtle about smoking pot. Today it was a section of soldiers trudging along with full kits (rifles included), who themselves had to navigate around the usual jog stroller and latte packs of new mothers out for a kaffeeklatsch. I am pleased to say that I was able to manoeuvre my bike around it all and pick a bouquet of lilacs without skidding on the wet pavement.
