A couple of purchases over the weekend as a result of hitting Amoeba, that new record store in Torrance, and another new used CD shop on Sunset near Guitar Center.
Bloc Party Tulips Purple Vinyl 12" Single
This one had been out for a few years but I never bothered to get it because I already had the remix that was on it. However, today I found a used copy that was pressed on purple swirl vinyl. I guess the coloured vinyl was limited because it looked like all the newer copies were plain black vinyl. So score!
The Futureheads Decent Days and Nights CD Single
The Futureheads Meantime CD Single
These were the only two CD singles I was missing since I wasn't into The Futureheads when they were first released. They only $3 a pop and each feature an exclusive b-side so these were a bargain.
Sugarcubes Vitamin CD Single
I found this at the CD shop next to Guitar Center. I bought it because it apparently had a remix of one of my favorite Sugarcubes songs, Walkabout but when I brought it home to listen to it, it sounded the same as the version found on the Sugarcubes best of I have. Weak. Thankfully, this only set me back 50 cents.
Elastica The Menace CD
I had this on vinyl for the longest time but I always wanted to get it on CD. I actually bought the vinyl back when it was first released and like most people, I didn't enjoy it at the time. I've since gone back and listened to it again. Like the sophomore Stone Roses album, The Menace has grown on me. Sure it's really nothing compared to the first Elastica album but there are some cool songs on here. Human, Love Like Ours, and their cover of Trio's Da Da Da for example. And it was only $4. Score part II.
Family Guy: The Freakin' Sweet Collection DVD
Another one that had been out for the longest time but didn't want to buy it. I finally took the plunge because I found out that it was already out of print on DVD. (It's still available on UMD though.) It's basically Seth McFarlane's five favorite Family Guy episodes. One of those five is the episode, When You Wish Upon a Weinstein which was never aired on network TV. The episode is about Peter Griffin trying to get a hold of a Jewish guy to be his financial accountant. After watching the episode, I could see why it had not aired as it could come across as racist. Not so much anti-semitic but more emphasizing Jewish stereotypes. It's still pretty goddamn funny though. Family Guy has is definitely one of the funniest shows ever.
The U-Turns The Death of Garage Rock 7" Single
Oh man, what to say about this one? This is officially my favorite record. All I can say is, "Never Mind the Shaggs, Here's The U-Turns!"
The story behind this Norton Records release is that it's an unreleased 1967 demo recording of some unknown band from Glendale (possibly, in California) doing their renditions of Love's "7 and 7 Is", The Stones' "Get Off of My Cloud", The Beatles' "I'm Down", and The Kinks' "Dedicated Follower of Fashion". This whole thing is a trainwreck. The singer is totally off key and out of sync with the music. The drummer can barely keep a beat. It's fucking hilarious. My two favorite parts are where you can clearly hear the singer telling the band during the Stones song, "Come on, louder!" and then yelling at the drummer at the end of the Beatles' cover, "Yo stop! Hey!" And then somebody else yelling, "Why didn't you tell him?!?!" This thing is really a gem because it's so awful. If anybody wants to hear this masterpiece, I uploaded it on Megaupload and you can get it

The Moody Blues Days of Future Passed LP
Lenny Bruce Togetherness LP
As mentioned yesterday, I got these two at the record shop in Torrance. Unfortunately, the Lenny Bruce record is virtually unlistenable because it's so scratched up. I'm afraid I'll fucked up my turntable if I listen to it. The Moodies album, however, it pretty clean with only a few minor pops and clicks.
