...or the week I bought a bunch of stuff that I probably shouldn't openly admit to liking.
Busted Busted CD
Busted A Present for Everyone CD
Busted Live: A Ticket for Everyone DVD
Okay, so this madness started
when I bought the US Busted CD last month. Since then, I had been regularly listening to it and that gave way to curiosity of how they sounded live. So I ordered the live DVD which had some songs which weren't on the CD I had. Soooo, I used the $25 gift card that I had to buy the 2 UK CDs at Tower Records.
Anyway, excuses aside (because, really, I don't have to justify my shit to anybody), I'm glad I bought these CDs. I always need to like some kind of mainstream pop band (see Spice Girls, Hear'Say, Robbie Williams, etc.) Busted is more of the pop-punk-boyband album, whereas A Present for Everyone sounds like part a more slick Blink-182 album crossed with latter day Goo Goo Dolls.
The interesting thing about the DVD is that you can kind of tell that Charlie (Simpson) isn't really having a good time on stage. It's like he's just going through the motions just to get the show over with. Who knew that less than a year later, he'd be in Fightstar. Good on ya, Charlie.
I spent a good part of my morning downloading a shit load of Busted single b-sides. They could have released their own album of just the cover versions they did--(Soul Asylum's Runaway Train, The Jam's That's Entertainment, Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl)
I also downloaded some post-Busted/non-Fightstar stuff. James Bourne's current band, Son of Dork and Matt Willis' solo stuff. I don't think I'll be buying any Son of Dork stuff anytime soon but I might look into Matt Willis' stuff because he's worked with Jason Perry (of 'A') and Daniel Carter (of 'A' and The Lucky Nine).
Hope of the States Left CD Single / 2 x 7" Singles with autographed print
The final single from HOTS. Not exactly my favorite song of their sophomore album of the same name. I would have much rather they released The Good Fight instead. But the b-sides are pretty interesting. More experimental electronic noodling, really. But I've always thought that HOTS had some pretty good instrumental tunes anyway.
Since I ordered this as a "bundle" I received a nifty autographed photo of the band. And now ends my HOTS collection. (Until I get an original Black Dollar Bills CD!)
Primal Scream Riot City Blues CD
Another rock album from the Scream Team. Following on from 2002's Evil Heat. Like most of the Primals rock albums, this one will take some time to get used to. I already like Country Girl though. I just realized (after looking at a discography online) that I'm only missing 2 proper albums from Primal Scream (Give Out But Don't Give Up and Vanishing Point). Bobby Gillespie and crew have released some good music. Maybe not strong albums as wholes but definitely some really good classic singles.
The Cooper Temple Clause Damage CD Single
This was an eBay auction "win." This single was a "tour only" single made available during the Coopers' last UK tour. And since I don't live in the UK, this was the only way I was able to get it. I guess this is technically the first single off the upcoming Make This Your Own full-length. This is a good comeback single for them after being gone for about three years and losing their bass player (Didz) to the Dirty Pretty Things. It's not as hard as the previous two albums. In fact, this one is a little more poppy. Had it been a proper single, it would have been a hit. Maybe. The b-side, Talking to Pylons is a typical Coopers b-side slowie. Kinda reminds me of Blur circa 1994/5 meets Hope of the States' The Good Fight. In fact, when I first heard it, I thought it was HOTS.
The Futureheads Worry About It Later 12" Remix Single / CD Single / 2 x 7" Singles w/ poster
The Futureheads Fallout/Skip to the End (Remixes) 12" Single
The second single from News and Tributes. The Futureheads break chart rules and release 5 (yes, FIVE) formats of this single. Of course, 679 Recordings were smart and disguised it as two separate releases giving each set a separate catalog number. But c'mon, it's all Worry About It Later. I got this single super late too (3 weeks after the release date) but I'm not that concerned seeing as there is virtually nothing new here. The b-sides are simply live tracks and the 12" singles have remixes. Nothing exciting. At least the lot only set me back $16. And one of the 7"s has a free poster.
