Back during tax season, I got a pretty hefty tax refund. I had given the money to my boyfriend to hold for me. I didn't want to put the money in the bank because I knew I would spend it on something I shouldn't. I had the intention of purchasing a new iMac because my old G4 Power PC Mac (with a 733 Mhz processor) was starting to get to slow for my tastes. However, I wanted to hold to the money for a while...just in case. What that just in case was, I don't know. I actually wanted to buy the computer while I was out on disability just so I could have something to mess with while I was home. Obviously, that didn't happen. I decided that this was the weekend to take the plunge.
We drove to PC Mall in Santa Monica to get it there. They offered a $100 mail in rebate on the purchase on the computer itself. They also offered a "free" laser printer with the purchase of the computer (again, after mail in rebate). For a total of $200 in savings. Sooo, I am now the owner of a new 17" iMac with the Intel Duo Core (1.83 Ghz) processor as well as a Samsung laser printer.
We were driving back home when Rents decided that he needed to go to Costco to buy some saline for his contact lenses. As we broswed the aisle, I came across a Yamaha surround sound home theater system. Any other time I probably wouldn't have cared. But then I noticed that it was a "combi-player." In other words, it played all the latest hi-rez formats included DVD-Audio AND SACD, not to mention DVD-Video. I was half sorta kinda in the market for a hi-rez player since I've bought a few SACD/CD Hybrid discs. And some of the latest Dualdiscs have DVD-Audio program on the DVD side. I'd seen a few cheap combi-players but never took the plunge because I didn't want to have to spend $200 on the player and then another $300 or so for the surround sound speakers. However, this nifty package contained everything within. The A/V receiver, the player and the speakers inclduing the sub-woofer. All for the price of $300. AND the player was a 5-disc changer to boot! Well, I hinted to my boyfriend that I would like that for my birthday (which, incidentally, is coming up in about 2 weeks). He said that if I wanted it then we'd better buy it now because, chances are, it won't be there when we come back in a few weeks. Sooo, I am also now the owner of a Yamaha Surround Sound Home Theater system! (Well, it will be mine on my birthday, August 28.)
Fucking hell, we go out for a computer and we come back with almost two thousand dollars worth of electronics! Seriously, that shit is out of control.
