The weekend haul...

There wasn't much at Amoeba but I was able to grab these...

Maximo Park Missing Songs CD
A compilation of early b-sides. A nice convenient way to get MP's b-sides. They're not really a band that I would go out and get all their singles. Not surprisingly, their b-sides are just as good as the singles and album tracks.

Jandek Khartoum CD
FINALLY, my first ever album by Jandek. After months of just being fascinated with this guy and only hearing one or two songs from him, I finally broke down and bought an album. I honestly don't know how many times I'll listen to it because it really is atonal music and it just isn't something I would listen to regularly. At times, he sounds like a drunk Billy Corgan but other times, he just sounds like a mad man. But I'm so fascinated with the history of this guy and his 45+ albums. I definitely have to go out and get the documentary on him, Jandek On Corwood.

Various Artists I Love Guitar Wolf...Very Much CD
This was released in Japan a few years back but I didn't want to spend $50 to get it imported. Thankfully, Narnack (Guitar Wolf's US label) saw fit to release this last year. It has otherwise unreleased GW covers by Snuff, The Wildhearts, and The Datsuns (cleverly disguised as The Hellsquad--probably because of record label politics). The covers are really good. I really should go out and get another Guitar Wolf album. Especially since every other one I've bought always got sold on eBay. Ha ha ha ha.

The Tower haul was more fruitful. There were a few CD singles that I left behind the last time I was there. They were about $5 each but they were on clearance so they were 75% off each. These were the only things I had intended on buying but when I was browsing, I looked at their Kinks section and saw that they this...

The Kinks The Kinks CD
The Kinks Kinda Kinks CD
The Kinks The Kink Kontroversy CD
3 CD's for $22. Individually, the CD's were $18 a pop. AND, I'd been considering getting some Kinks stuff in my collection since I didn't have any to begin with. So it seemed write. So far, I've listened to the first album, and it's really good. As played out as "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night" are, they are still really good songs. I like that sort of snotty schoolboy voice that Ray Davies has.

The others...

Blink 182 Always CD Single
I wanted this for the two live b-sides--I Miss You and The Rock Show. I like the way they've done both these songs in a live setting.

Queens of the Stone Age First It Giveth CD Single
I sort of accidentally bought this because it thought a different song was on it. I thought there was a remix of "Song for the Dead" but I read it wrong and it was a remix for "Song for the Deaf". Damnit! At least the video was included on the CD. That went straight into my iPod.

The Strokes The End Has No End CD Single
Bought for their live cover of The Clash's Clampdown. I had the 7" of this but it was pressed wrong and sounds like crap.

Funeral For A Friend Escape Artists Never Die CD Single
Bought for b-sides, You Want Romance? and 10 Scene Points to the Winner. I should try to download more FFAF b-sides. Their albums are pretty solid so I would imagine that the b-sides would just as good.

guitar wolf, blink 182, kinks, strokes, queens of the stone age, maximo park, jandek, funeral for a friend
