HAUL OR NOTHING

As previously mentioned, I've got to catch up on my music purchases. Clearly, I'm buying far too much shit...

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE Four Words (To Choke Upon) 7" Single
Well, they seem like a bandwagon band. But then again, I don't really have my finger on the pulse of UK metal. At first I was turned off by their name because a) it's a typical contemporary metal/emo type name and b) it sounds very similar to Funeral For Friend. Coincidentally enough, they are playing a show or two with FFAF. Anyway, this is definitely a guilty pleasure. I'd probably get kicked out of the "elitist indie kids" club if I was found out to be listening to this. Ha ha ha ha ha. It really is very "\m/". Lots of double kick. Not really blast beats or anything like that. Well, this single was limited to 1000 copies and it has an etching on the b-side so it's cool. WAHEY!

JIMMY EAT WORLD Work CD Single and Blue Vinyl 7" Single
JIMMY EAT WORLD Futures Japanese Deluxe Version 2-CD
I finally got my long awaited 2 CD Japanese Import version. It's pretty much the same as the US deluxe version with the bonus demos CD. BUT it has an additional 9 bonus tracks. Whoo hoo. Shame, You, When I Want, Sparkle, The Concept, Work (Acoustic Version), as well as demo versions of Shame, When I Want, and You. The Concept is a cover version of the great Teenage Fanclub song. Although, I'll have to say that I like TFC's version. The only exclusive track on the Work singles was a really horrible remix of Drugs or Me. The tracklisting for the Work singles were probably the work of Interscope in the UK but they really wasted a chance to get some Futures outtakes released. Oh well, it just makes the fact that I have a proper CD version (and not a shitty quality mp3) of Sparkle even more cool.

ASH Commando e.p.
This was "for the collection" and a total impulse buy. I had all 4 songs on this e.p. already. I even had the CD rom stuff on it. The only reason why I bought it was because the cover was exclusive and I bought it at the show.

YETI Never Lose Your Sense of Wonder
The new band from John Libertine. I'm not sure if The Libertines have officially split. Pete off doing Babyshambles. Carl is DJ'ing around the UK. Not sure what Gary's up to. Anyway, I'm not terribly impressed with John's band. It's very La's sounding. But I was never into the La's. It's a nice little jangly tune but I don't imagine it getting much rotation on my iPod.

SNUFF Six of One, Half a Dozen of Another 2-CD
2 CD greatest hits n' bits and bobs from one of my favorite hardcore punk bands. It's a nice little collection. There are a couple of songs that I probably would included on the greatest hits portion. The 2nd disc has a pretty good amount of rare stuff including their awesome covers of Tiffany's/Tommy Shondell's I Think We're Alone Now and Macy Gray's I Try. I must remember to order the Billy No Mates (aka Duncan Snuff) album online.

The D4 Out of My Head CD
I finally got this one in. A good sophomore album. I'm still absorbing it but there are a few songs that have stood out so far. Sake Bomb is definitely one. I hope they come to the States soon. Hmmm, I wonder if Hollywood Records in the US already dropped them. Ha ha ha ha.

BLOC PARTY Tulips CD Single
I probably should have held out on getting either the original Little Thoughts single or the Japanese Helicopter CD instead of getting this US single. But it was $3 at Boo Boo Records in San Luis Obispo and I wanted to buy something for the sake of buying something. The good thing is that this is a different mix of the song from the one I downloaded (legally, motherfuckers) from the Bloc Party website. Anyway, good song. But I'm still listening (over-listening, if you will) to Little Thoughts. (Play count is already up to 15)

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Lullabies to Paralyse CD/DVD
Another one that I need to properly listen to. So far, I'm not that into it. When I got both Rated R and Songs For The Deaf, I liked them almost immediately. This one is different though. Oh well, I'll give it some time. I should probably go out and finally get the first QOTSA album as well.

GRAHAM COXON Live at The Zodiac DVD
Full length live DVD from Coxy. Haven't watched it yet. But I'm sure it's just as energetic as when I saw him at The Troub. It's actually 2 different concerts as well as 3 promo videos. Nice value for the money.

HELL IS FOR HEROES Live DVD
I really should wait to watch this DVD since I still don't have my copy of the new album, Transmit Disrupt since HMV fucked up my order and sent me the wrong CD. Half the songs on this concert DVD is from the new album. Oh well. Again, I haven't been too keen on the last few HIFH singles but this DVD has songs from The Neon Handshake so I'm still looking forward to seeing it.

In other music blah blah...
Got a hold of mp3s of the new Oasis and Razorlight singles. The former, Lyla, is decent while the latter, Somewhere Else, is only alright. I'm looking forward to the new Oasis album though. I actually liked Heathen Chemistry. In fact, I'm one of the few people who think that Oasis have released consistently good material.
The only other big download has been 2 songs from the forthcoming Manic Street Preachers e.p., God Save The Manics, Firefight and Secret Society. They are really fucking good. I need to make every effort to try to get a hold of the e.p. from someone in the UK since the Manics have decided to make proper CD copies available only to people who attend the last night of the Past Present and Future tour on April 19th. Fuckers. The songs will be available for download on the Manics website, but, clearly, those will NOT suffice.

runaways, yeti, hell is for heroes, d4, ash, snuff, bullet for my valentine, jimmy eat world, queens of the stone age, bloc party, graham coxon
